When DJBooth featured Colby O’Donis’s debut single, What You Got, this past December, members raved about his voice, his style, and his sound. After working the single to the top of the charts, both at our site and on Billboard, O’Donis followed by releasing his current hit record, Don’t Turn Back. Now, just a little over a week away from the release of his self-titled debut, the album’s next single has been hand-delivered to the Booth. The selection is a mid-tempo jam, entitled Let You Go, written and produced entirely by the young artist. In line with both of his previous efforts, the record should have teens lighting up the request lines at radio stations across the country. Colby O will be the second Konvict release in two weeks, following the release of Kardinal Offishall’s Not 4 Sale tomorrow.
I personally think Colby O'Donnis should just stick with singing up beat songs. This whole slow sad song movement is not wats up. I mean the song is ok but i think he could do better then this
This track is pretty good, I agree that those club tempo joints make him shine better. This just sounds like every other R&B song to me, so the creativity factor isn't too big here. Still, good vocals and production, got the right elements to move some records.
I don't know man. I haven't really hopped on the Colby O bangwagon. He's just really cheesy to me. I liked him on that Prima J song, but he's just not cutting it for me. I love the production on this, but it definitely sounds like he's biting Chris Brown's style. Anyone notice how that beginning guitar sounded like Hanson's "Mmm Bop"? (Should I even know about that song...lol). I guess I'll throw this in rotation, because it is smooth. I guess it will have to grow on me. Hopefully it can.
Everything Colby has pulled out so far is good to me...this song isn't an exception! I think he shines in up-mid- and slow-tempo songs as I really love his voice...I find this song extremely good! Banger!
MH i second you on that, it does kinda remind me of Chris Brown, but still, i'm feeling this song more than any other Chris Brown song i've heard except for Electric Guitar (New Release), What You Got was one of those songs that should be taken off the charts as soon as it gets on because it gets really annoying, but still i like the Guitar in this to, Good song, i'll play it again more than his other songs.
This is a cute record.Nothing extremely surprising but would definitely get some spins on those nights when you thinking about that one person. Kind of Chris Brownish, but still good. 3 star~(**)~
Colby's "Don't Turn Back" didn't get where "What You Got" went, which sucks, because I'm counting on this year to be the KONVICT year. 2009, let's go people!
