Clyde Carson - Where Doves Fly
Artist: Clyde Carson
Featuring: Wyclef Jean
Producer:
Album: Somethin' to Speak About EP
Label: Moe Doe Ent.
After dozens of listens to Prince’s famous single, I have to admit I still have no clue what it sounds like When Doves Cry (I mean, was he referring to his own high-pitched vocalizations? The instrumental backdrop? The song as a whole?). In contrast, Clyde Carson‘s evocatively-titled new EP single, Where Doves Fly offers a firm, if bleak answer to its central question: in the streets of Oakland, the slums of Haiti, and anyplace where social injustice makes life a cheap commodity. An unknown producer’s sample-infused reggae groove sets an appropriately gritty mood as Carson paints a dark lyrical portrait of life in the ghetto, where the constant power struggle between pimps, gangsters and dealers on one side, and crooked cops on the other results in safety for none. Fugees alum and solo heavyweight Wyclef Jean guests, gracing the record with his inimitably gruff, cracked vocals. If this unflinching look at the urban jungle has you nodding along, more fresh tunes are on the way: Clyde Carson’s new EP, Somethin’ to Talk About, is scheduled for release in May.

The beat is awesome. Everything else on the track not so much. The flow was just akward. Clyde Carson's voice didn't really fit in on this track either.

I completely agree with you DegreeKIP, I loved the beat but wasn't feeling the verses. Why is Game in the pic above I wonder? I might have preferred him on this track. Oh well, 2-stars for me.

Getting Clef on a record is a great look for Clyde Carson - I mean, how many guest features does this man do a year? 1? 2? The song itself is solid, but not spectacular. However, the collaboration itself should be a nice stepping stone for Carson.

The beat is ok, but the flow is weak. This track feels all over the place and Wyclef screaming and talking in the background is kind of annoying.

Hmm? I am kind of surprised by these low ratings. I understand it's not classic or anything, but to me, this is good music. I think Clyde is coming out with some fresh material lately. Keep up the hard work.
