Clyde Carson - Somethin' to Speak About
Artist: Clyde Carson
Featuring: Game , Jimmie Reign
Producer: Scoop DeVille
Album: Somethin' to Speak About EP
Label: Moe Doe Ent.
Unless you’re a loyal fan or you’ve got his collab with Goapele on constant repeat in the crib, like yours truly, chances are you haven’t heard from Clyde Carson in a minute (his last Booth feature, I’m Lost, was way back in ’09). Even so, don’t call new single Somethin’ to Speak About a comeback, he’s been here for years. Setting the stage is Scoop Deville, who crafts a brilliantly understated, soul-sampled beat as relaxed as a Sunday morning. Matching the beat’s quality on the mic are Game, who delivers the kind of well crafted verse I was left wanting on Purp & Patron, and the headliner, who lays down some deeply personal lyrics detailing his life’s joys and struggles: “Look into my eyes, ain’t too much I ain’t seen / except death and the penitentiary gates.” Add in some sweet vocals from female crooner Jimmie Reign and you’ve got the smooth rider of the week. For more from Mr. Carson be sure to cop his upcoming EP of the same name, Somethin’ to Speak About, “coming soon.”

Its been forever since we last featured Clyde's work in the Booth, so I was pleased to see he had new material ready for the masses. Not to mention, good material. "Something to Speak About" might be some of his best work to date.

It's songs like this that make me proud to be from the left coast. Very smooth, nicely done. 4.5

Never heard of this dude, and I'm a west coaster all day, but DAMN. Clyde Carson is that DUUUDE. His verses are amazing. Game I could do without, was a waste of a 16, but Clyde...damn, keep it coming.

Sooo glad to hear some material from Clyde. I remember his song "Doin that" was being bumped from every car during my high school days. To be honest though, I didn't love this song all that much. It was smooth, but nothing special. Slightly disappointed, but maybe because I expect a lot from him as well as Game. 3/5

Been a fan of Carson since my days as a Bay Area resident, but this is a real step forward for him. Y'all know I only swear when I mean it, and I f**king love this cut. Beat's dope, one of the better Game verses I've heard in a minute, and Clyde's rhymes are on point. West coast stand up.

The beat Drags, wish it could be more than just a loop. These guys never innovate, same ol' same ol' if you know these artists.

A different sound from Clyde Carson. A better sound. Even though i haven't heard from him for a while, improvement is on full display here.

Its pretty good but the beat is to laid back for me. Clyde and The Game bring it lyrically.

Love this track! It has a Nate-Dogg feel to it and came out right around the time he passed...
