In my review of Royce da 5’9”s new album Street Hop I talked about historically delayed albums – albums that have been delayed so many times they’ve become almost mythological – and the Clipse’s Till the Casket Drops is certainly a prime candidate for that designation. Well, the casket will definitely drop soon if their new single Back by Popular Demand (Popeyes) becomes a hit, and in all honesty I’m not sure it will. I’ve listened to this track 20 times now and I still can’t decide if The Neptunes’ vibrating horns and plunking piano line production is dope or a little off, if guest artist Cam’ron’s work is a great slow flow or just lazy, if Malice and Pusha-T’s verses drip with swagger or are disappointingly clean, lacking in their trademark grit. Maybe some of the Booth members can help me make up my mind. Please, have at it. Till the Casket Drops is slated to (almost definitely) drop on December 8.

Nathan, I listened to this about 20 times this weekend myself. My reasoning? Because it bangs! Nothing new from any of the participants, but comes together quite nicely.

THE best song from Clipse since 'Grindin' - this is fire. Pusha's flow on verse one was raw. Chorus was bangin and Cam held his own against these guys. Damn!

Can't wait for Till The Casket Drops, haven't been too impressed by the singles so far. I'm Good was decent, All Eyes On Me as well, Kinda Like A Big Deal was pretty good, but this right here is a jam. A definite banger, a lotta hype built for this joint, and they come through. Neptunes sound good on the production and Pharrell's hook is nice, Cam drops a solid verse, Pusha and Malice are fitting. Banger right here!!!

This was alright. Out of the two in Clipse, Malice is always better lyrically. Not sure why Cam'ron's on this track. His verse was lacking something. I miss the 98 version of Cam...when his flow wasn't lazy.

@Lu Galasso - i agree with u in that i think Malice is the stronger out of the 2, though i think were in the minority.
Im a massive Clipse fan so I was always expecting big things from this highly hyped track & I think it delivered. Production is good & all 3 came with the heat to match. Till The Casket Drops is going to be a must have album |

did i just read that the clipse is the only duo to make it work? I can name quite a few duos that were/are better than the clipse... Outkast, Eric B & Rakim, Black Star, Mobb Deep, and I may even throw UGK in there... but song is dope, Clipse are dope, and pharrell actually came with it...

@hypnoticcc - Its the beat that is a turn off in my opinion. Sounds a lot like "So Ambitious" to me (those horns), which further is an enhanced version of "Blue Magic" to my ears.
But I think both Pusha and Malice did solid as usual. Tight wordplay and cleverly pieced-together lines, Malice wrecked the third verse. Cam’s verse is alright, his laid back flow does sound lazy! here. Jadakiss would've been perfect for this beat. Hook's memorable, so overall as a whole package its Rotation fa sho! but shoulda been better. Not too excited for the album, even though I've liked all the three singles and other leaked ish, want to keep my expectations at ease but I hope the album is good. |

Ok, I'm sold. I still prefer my Clipse grittier, but this is one of their best radio releases in a minute. It just keeps getting better with any listen. I love that they subtitled the track Popeyes, even though the only reference is by Pharrell in the beginning.

Im sayin tho there is somethin off about the BEAT and the lyrics but I think thats how they wanted to sound Purposely... The GAME is changin and with that so is the traditional way mc's rhyme and the way way beats are made so for a time signature to be slightly off, I think its ok thats what makes iLL... shot outs to Clipse Popeye,Cam and the Neptunes RIDICULOUSLY INSANE TRACK

it was decent...Cam'ron hasn't had a hot memorable feature since K.West's "Gone". The chorus is dry but the lyrics (from Pusha) and beat makes up for it slightly.

Camron sucks on this track to me he aint been hot since horse and carriage lol that's jus me but Hypnoticcc its that drum like sound. The Clipse never really blew up like I thought they would when they but out gridin...and I dnt knw why because they are a hot group!!!
