Clipse - Kinda Like A Big Deal ft. Kanye West
Artist: Clipse
Featuring: Kanye West
Producer: DJ Khalil and Chin Injeti [Of The New Royales]
Album: Till The Casket Drops
Label: Re-Up/Columbia
Since leaving their “label from hell” situation at Jive for much greener pastures at Columbia, the Clipse have built up plenty of buzz for their forthcoming junior album, Till The Casket Drops. After nearly two years, the official lead single has finally been released. Reminding listeners that their long-awaited comeback is Kinda Like A Big Deal, Pusha T and Malice temper their deadpan, lyrically-layered style with a lighter tone that stands in stark contrast to the darkness of Hell Hath No Fury. The biggest deal here, however, is Kanye West, who returns to his College Dropout-era form with a 16-bar, Autotune-free rap verse over DJ Khalil‘s electric-guitar production—to put it simply, the record lives up to its name and then some. Expect KLABD to make waves in the underground and on the DJBooth charts, stirring up street hype that will last from now Till The Casket Drops sometime this summer.

DJ Khalil made the beat kind of sound like The Neptunes but its still pretty hot! The guitar sounds fresh and Kanye kills his verse. Clipse does their thing..Ye and Clipse is a better combination then I thought they would be. Banger!

To be honest, I expect more from a Clipse lead single. I mean, I thought Lord Willin' and Hell Hath were both better than they were given credit for. I love the clipse and I feel like they can do better than this. It's aight, but they have more potential than this. Kanye is cool, but a wierd addition in between these two grimy rappers. IDK I guess I'll wait 2 see what else is in store.

Whoa! The beat was so perfectly integrated to match their flows (or is it the other way around) ... DAMN!!!
DJ Khalil produces a beast of an instrumental ... all instruments and sound effects involved were enjoyable ... & Clipse sets it off over this engaging instrumental, & Kanye body's his verse ... Lyrically its not the best from Clipse but its all good from a lead-single perspective ... |

I very much agree with Juanito88, especially about Lord Willin (my all time favorite album) & Hell Hath No Fury not receiving the correct amount of recognition.
Back to this track, Im a big fan of Clipse & having Kanye on the track made me even more keen to hear this track. But after hearing it I felt a little disappointed. The beat is a little annoying (though Khalil is easily the best producer making these rock/rap fusions beats) & the verses were average considering these guys are industry heavyweights. Its still a decent track, though I was expecting better. |

I thought the beat was pretty tight actually. It matched their flows well. All of the verses were decent but Clipse can definitely do better, as can Kanye. I hope some big tracks come out of this album, though.

(0_o I can't believe the low ratings, specially based on disappointment...!)
I love Clipse’s characteristic sound (that HOT percussion pattern, using unusual instruments). Pusha T's flow is great and Kanye just fits well!! They all bring it lyrically, don't know what else y'all want. Khalil captured their vibe perfectly delivering a Neptunes-like production but filled with character( the guitar and sound effects are brilliant)! |

SO good to have Clipse back, they haven't skipped a beat. I'm also glad they switched up producers and went with someone other than Pharrell. Add Kanye and a hot verse to the mix and you have a hit.

I was hoping Clipse was gonna bring a little more than that. Maybe just because Ye killed it dead. Nevertheless, I think Im gonna keep liking it more and more

Tight rhymes, a crazy ass beat, what else you need? I can't take ya'll serious at all who gives this a low rating or even worse who doesn't see the genius in it. go and listen to cookie-cutter bullshit that sounds the same like every other song you heard right before haha

Okay, was I slightly disappointed here? Yes. But even a slightly disappointing record from Clipse/Kanye is better than 95% of the sh*t we receive.
@sommi - C'mon now. Look around - does anyone else talk like that around here? |

Let mer start off by saying Clipse are the best duo at the moment in my eyes (my other fave is MOBB DEEP but theyve fallen). Hell Hath No Fury was A CLASSIC!!! The way they rode the neptunes beat with the i dont give a @*#$!, me and you against the world, and bathing in their own glory lyrics WERE AMAZING.
I prefer them on Neptunes beats, but this is no less than a banger. I can understand why non cllipse followers dont really dig this song, but I think ythis is fire. They have to cvreate buzz for their album, and whatever way is best than featUring KANYE! Their last album was not promoted properly and "delayed"!!!. & didnt feature a "girl or radio friendly" track. So sales were low. Im expectin the same fire on TTCP THOUGH :) |

I would have to say BANGER - through and through. I think with any Clipse bomb-track, it always takes a few listens for you to get hooked. Pusha T and Malice come hard to the table (both lyrically as usual and with great flow) and the production is Neptunes-soundish, but Neptunes before they got toooo far out (progressive?).
Anyway, maybe everyone has gotten used to Ye's new style if about only 50% of those are feeling him on this, cause I personally was happy to hear him sans auto-tune with some on point griminess which comes as close he he'll ever get to the virginia natives. I saw Clipse live in January and the concert was fire. The house was packed and was going nuts, they know they have their fan base out there without having to sell their soul for radio spins. I hope they maintain like this till the casket does drop but I hope I don't have to wait that long for this next album 'cause if this is just a case of what's to come then make way for another classic. @ everyone, how can many of you listen to the new em track and give him passes and excuses on dropping his first single (arguably second) of the album and keep on sayin' "don't worry, it's not that good, but we know Em, it's his first forumlaic single, so it's actually awesome." Then you listen to this and many are saying "kinda disappointed" or "not really feeling this"...I don't get it, this here is real hip hop from some of the most underrated. Listen to this song a few more times, then tell me I'm wrong. Like I said: BANGER. |

The Production, by far, is the highlight of this seemingly addictive track. Hopefully they can do this often (I said that for another song but i can't remember). Clipse went off the hook and now hes back with this ish.

I'm surprised by the low ratings on this one. Clipse and Kanye both tore it up in my opinion and the production was hot. The only downside to this is the hook really which was a bit nonsensical (yet more appealing than "Wamp Wamp", which is actually one of my favorite Clipse songs. haha)

"thagrizz"- after 4 more listens, my opinion hasnt changed. i would have to say u r wrong (in my opinion).
"Z"- i dunno bout better than 95 percent of the stuff u recieve. for example, that would mean that this song is better than 19 of the last 20 posted including Loso-Its My Time, Pleasure P-Boyfriend #2 rmx, Young Son-Git Live, Drake-Best Ive Ever Had, BEP-Boom Boom Pow rmx, and Shawnna-Shorty Got Work. maybe better than 75-80 percent of the stuff posted. |

Never been a fan of Clipse really and this is unfortunately no exception. Its like a beat that isn't banging enough to be a banging track, but too banging to be a nice laid back track. I would have preferred either of those, but not this.

This track has grown on me enough for me to support Clipse & make this my myspace song (as they are requesting fans to do). Im still not a big fan of the beat, though It is effective for the purpose of the song. I still prefer hearing Malice & Pusha over a Neptunes beat though.
Changing rating to a 4 (maybe residents should be given the power to change their ratings, as I seem to change my opinions on certain tracks within days) |
