Clinton Sparks - Rockin' With the Best
Featuring: Diddy
Producer: Clinton Sparks & DJ Snake
Album: None
Label: Get Familiar
One of the most frequently-cited rules of writing is to “show, not tell.” In the more swagger-centric worlds of rap and professional sports, on the other hand, doing a little (or a lot of) telling along with your showing isn’t just accepted, it’s essential. Thus, it’s only right that the latest buzz record from Clinton Sparks, released in honor of NBA All-Star weekend, finds the heavyweight DJ-turned-artist and hip-hop mogul Diddy tooting their own horns at max volume, making sure all within earshot know that they’re now Rockin’ With the Best. Over his and DJ Snake‘s synth-sizzling four-on-the-floor boardwork, Sparks indulges in a downright epic bout of sung-rapped stunting, stopping only to voice his approval of a female clubgoer’s dance moves. Sean Combs contributes a simple but effective shouted hook, and concludes the record with a helpful summary of what came before: “He is Clinton Sparks. They call me Diddy. We ARE the best!” So readers, are you digging Clinton Sparks as a solo artist? This joint isn’t set for inclusion on any project, but fans should stay tuned for release details on his forthcoming Interscope debut album.

A little better than Clinton's latest with Akon, but that's not saying much at all. I know it's aimed for the clubs but I'm not even sure most clubs would get down with this, so I'm relieved that this won't be featured on any album. The last Clinton track I was feeling was the Ambiguous record with Big Sean and Mike Posner, maybe he should stay in that lane.

Would expect nothing different from Clinton Sparks. He is and always will be a club/pop machine and this product isn't anything surprising or different from his norm.

Clinton says this is just a "throwaway" record and that it sounds nothing like the rock/pop album that he has on the horizon. I'll believe him. In the meantime, I would encourage DJs to spin "Rockin With The Best" for no reason other than its a hyped song, which should energize a stale crowd.

I've got all the respect for Clinton in the world, and I'm sure this beat will tear up the clubs, but in all honesty it's just not my personal style.
