City Haze - Keep on Winnin'
Producer: Philly Blunts & Hippopotamus Funk
Album: None (Promo Single)
Label: Starr Scream Ent/Universal
With May’s acclaimed Star of the City street album, Lost in Tokyo up-and-comer City Haze succeeded in stoking his already prodigious buzz to a fever pitch. So, what’s next for the Brooklyn/South Bronx representative? Well, more of the same – as the artist explains on his latest promo single, he’s just gonna Keep on Winnin’ and let the rest take care of itself. Hilariously-named production duo Philly Blunts & Hippopotamus Funk handle the instrumental side of this energetic joint, serving up a bluesy, retro-informed rock-rap backdrop complete with beatboxing from BeatSmyth. On the lyrical tip, Haze departs from his usual, smooth rhyme style in favor of a more swaggerriffic approach, spitting braggadocio-soaked game in hopes of convincing a certain shawty to ride with him. So readers, does this carefree street banger make your ears feel like they just hit the lottery? Then keep it locked – this cut isn’t attached to any forthcoming project, but you can count on DJBooth to bring you all the latest from City Haze!

If Haze had placed this lyrical content/theme over a different backdrop, I'd probably be hesitant to even prop it up on the Booth's homepage. However, he went left with the help of some talented producers and the end result is funky and fun. I am a big fan of the beat boxing.

Heard better from Haze. Like Z said the production carries the song.

Song has alot of energy and Haze comes correct with his bars. Hook was alright, but I don't think it was that great as a whole. Solid effort from this guy. He always seems to come through on these ladies tracks.

Seems like we're all more or less unanimous. This beat is excellent, I'm digging the beat box meets rock vibe, but I can't say City lyrically did any better than solid, which is more than enough to make the track a winner.

Haze's lyrical content is a bit lax on this cut but as always he brought something original to the table that not many artist out right now are doing. Perhaps the beat carries the song a bit, still it a banger in my estimates.
