If you’re like me, you came up in a household where use of the word ”Gimme” would not only not get you what you wanted, but was likely to earn you a slap on the rear. Then again, “Could I please have that bass?” doesn’t roll off the tongue quite as easily as the title phrase of Ciara‘s latest feature and potential single. Like the album’s Luda-assisted lead single, this cut will sound right at home in the club; in contrast to Ride‘s sensual vibe, though, Gimme Dat is all about energy. Here, beatsmith Soundz delivers an uptempo blend of lightly-syncopated percussion, synths and vocal samples as CiCi announces her triumphant return to our speakers, and fills us in on just how much she enjoys a nice, booming bassline – and I mean she really enjoys it. So, is Gimmie Dat single material? I’ll let Booth readers weigh in on that one. In any case, fans will be able to find plenty more body-moving grooves (complete with all the bass your subwoofers can handle) on Basic Instinct, due out August 17, via LaFace/Zomba.

Ciara has had hit records pop off both inside and out of the club, but her long term success has to be focused within it. She sounds right at home over this SoundZ production and she doesn't push her voice to do more than its capable of.

Now this is the song right here. This might give her the hit that she needs to bring her back to the r&b fore front. Soundz's beat was good and CiCi sounded perfect over it, great record.

One of Ciara's biggest fan bases are dancers, and like Lose Control the true dancers are going to love this one.
I thought Ride was great (although maybe I'm just thinking of the video) and while I didn't see this blowing up as a smash single, if the upcoming album has more of Gimme Dat it's going to be a solid effort.

She went back to her roots. She was trying to evolve with her music after having a little bit of success. just stick to the formula of what worked and everything else will come in the form of features that allow you to expand

The quality bass-work is obviously what pairs with Ciara's nimble vocals to make this a very strong club banger. It's also what's not going to not let it be a radio single - too repetitive and stark content (outside of the low end work) won't bring enough interest in mainstream radio.
Just beat the hell out of it in the club, and maybe it'll HAVE to come to radio. I'm definitely going to add it to my list. |

It's a meh to me.
Ciara never really had a hit that I really liked ever since her Goodies days. I feel like she tries too hard in every recently released track that I've listened to. Sorry Ciara, try better. This was an OK song to me. |
