Chrisette Michele - Let Freedom Reign
Artist: Chrisette Michele
Featuring: Talib Kweli
Producer: Chuck Harmony
Album: Let Freedom Reign
Label: Motown Records
Chrisette Michele has arguably the best voice in Hip-Hop. And if it’s not the best, it’s undoubtedly the most captivating. Songs like Lost Ones and Can’t Forget About You technically featured the singer, but they may as well have been her tracks. Now looking to continue to expand her reputation from just a ‘hook-singer’, Michele lets loose the title track off her new album, Let Freedom Reign. Produced by Chuck Harmony, the instrumental maintains a simple approach, highlighted by the kind of military snare that the title suggests in addition to overlaying vocal elements. The song also features all-star lyricists Talib Kweli - “My rhymes bridge the gap between religion and science/ Because my evidence is spiritual/ I know my sheer presence is a miracle” - and Black Thought - “These dirty dollar signs/ Black and white collar crimes/ Runnin’ out of time/ Out of sight, out of mind” - who both help make the cut lyrically exceptional. Michele also gets her due shine on the record, though some may wish she would have flexed her vocals a bit more. If you’re digging this, definitely be on the lookout for Michele’s album Let Freedom Reign, out Tuesday (November 30).

One of the stand out cuts on Chrisette's new album, "Let Freedom Reign" doesn't sound like most of the new project, but showcases her flexing her stylistic range and semi-epic vocals. Oh, and it also features two super dope emcees.

Dang. Quality solid song, with a deep message. Talib and Black Thought only take the song the an even higher level. And Chrisette delivers a hook that could be remembered for a long time.

Chrisette belts an absolutely stunning chorus with her unique raspy-esque voice. I didn't like her random rap thing in her verse though...
Kweli and the Roots frontman emcee drop solid verses too. |

I say this is a classic. Every element on this track is perfect. It kinda reminded me of sumn the Fugees would do.

I think I am just different than everyone else, cuz I think this is Just OK. The production is just OK to me and Chrisette doesn't sound all that great here. I like Talib lyrically here, but he still sounds out of place. This is an OK track, but I can't see myself playing this again, so its not a rotation joint to me...

I honestly dont know how anyone can say this isnt a striaght classic. This record is striaght amazing. Everything in this is perfect. The production from Chuck is amazing. The chorus is bone chilling. The message is so deep and thoughtful. Chrisette did her best on this. And the feature of Talib couldnt have been better. I would personaly rate this a 8 if i could.

The only thing I don't like about this song is the initial rapping by Chrisette but everything else about this song is at least a banger!!
4.5 but rounding down because of the beginning rap verse (and that's only reason). |

The only thing I like about this track is the hook and thats NEVER enough to put a track in rotation. Talib really did sound out of place on this track.
