There are only a few rappers out there who can pull off using the word “eviscerated” in a single; Chino XL just so happens to be one of them. Cross Your Heart finds the Jersey rapper in his typical battle rap craze, throwing around over-the-top punchlines and politically incorrect remarks like nobody’s mama is listening. Guest emcee Bun B shows up for one of his more memorable guest appearances, bringing just as much heat as Chino in his verse and on the hook, and Aftermath producer Focus, an alleged protégé of Dr. Dre himself, lays down an eerie, piano-driven beat.  Overall, the track is as menacing an affair as its title suggests. Cross Your Heart will appear on Chino XL’s forthcoming album, The Secret (Fall ’08).

We back! West Coast is making alotta noise these days, haven't we? lmao My boy Chino has been talking @*#$! 4 years now. A veteran in this game its good to see him up to his style of rap again. This is a nice one 4 him. Haunting West Coast beat, Bun B blessing the hook. I enjoyed that.

Beat is hot and I could believe dat focus is dres protege. Bun B way crazier than usual, those were some crazy ass angry lyrics, used to him rappin bout rims and being real. Overall a hot unique song. Prefer Bun B's part to Chino.

Man, that beat is sick. You could sorta hear the Dre influence definitely.

Maybe its because I am in Chicago, but Chino XL falls off my radar every year or so... then out of nowhere, he hops back on. Effective now, he is on. Bun is sick, but he doesn't steal the show (as Charlie so nicely pointed out).

Man. It's been a lot of really great soulful productions on this batch of Booth joints. Focus puts his foot in this eerie sounding soul piano piff. Bun B served it real smooth and Chino XL's flow is super energetic. "Keep that off the record like songs with no sample clearances". His delivery reminds me of Immortal Technique and Eminem for some reason. I guess that's just the feeling it gave me. This is a real atmospheric thriller type joint. Great engineering too on the mix.
