Charles Hamilton - Scorpion
Artist: Charles Hamilton
Producer: Charles Hamilton
Album: Well Isn't This Awkward Mixtape
Label: NewCo.
If you were into video games back in the early ‘90s, the grainy “Get over here” sample that opens this record is sure to evoke some fond memories. Hamilton manages to put a romantic spin on the famous Mortal Kombat quote on the appropriately-titled Scorpion, a leaked track from his upcoming Well Isn’t This Awkward… mixtape. Featuring subtly catchy production by the artist himself (based around a chopped sample of Raphael Saadiq and D’Angelo‘s Be Here), as well as the distinctive lyricism fans have come to expect, Scorpion is most definitely an enjoyable listen on its own merits, but, like most of Hamilton’s work thus far, it’s presented as just one piece of a larger puzzle; Well Isn’t This Awkward… will apparently see Hamilton (as Connor Harrington) narrating a made-for-TV romance between himself and an anonymous, fabulously rich female. It’s a compellingly strange concept (as usual for Hamilton); will listeners catch on? We’ll find out this Friday, the 13th.

I don't know where Charles' career is headed. It's really hard to tell.
This joint is okay...but, IDK. The production is decent and Charles makes good female joints. His mixtape title describes it all. |

He can do better but this is alright for him. Creative concept and he could of had this banging but his lyrics are out of control and he needs to stay on beat. Creative like always! Pretty dope beat and good lyrics.

I love his eccentric style, but he really needs to start producing things in a way that they are more pleasing to the ear. I mean, play with the treble/vocal volume or something. Having said that, this was a decent beat that had a smooth, but choppy, vibe. The hook was ok, but a little boring. I guess I haven't heard a hook from Hamilton that wasn't a little boring. I liked his flow, pretty good.

I think production wise this is one of his best. The D'Angelo Sample is well put together. CH started with great momentum but his personality is kinda left field. Now he is gaining some industry enemies and I'm with MH, I'm not sure what's next for the kid. To be honest he needs to focus on those soul sample beats cause in that regard he is supremely talented.

..(sigh) his samples are clever, but mortal kombat and sonic the hedge hog sound effects will be cool even in a k-fed song. Don't get me wrong his flow is on point, but the songs seem to cluttered. He's pushin it too hard. He's tryin to walk in one shoe of lupe and the other shoe kanye..I'M NOT A CHARLES HAMILTON HATER but if u hear sonic the hamilton mixtape you will understand where im coming from. This track is ok i just think he needs to clean up the complicated productions CH got mad skills. go listen to that "pleasant overthinking" if you are just now discovering sonic

BDF44 nailed it: "To be honest he needs to focus on those soul sample beats cause in that regard he is supremely talented."

Not sure about CH either, this ones OK, I liked brooklyn girl much more. Had very low expectations after reading some of the reviews, I like the beat and the first verse was good but idk about that hook. Im sure once he finally release a cd it'll be banging, but im not too sure about this.
