Charles Hamilton - MTV Cribs
Artist: Charles Hamilton
Producer: The Chonchords
Album: Demevolist Music Group's "First Order of Business" Mixtape
Label: NewCo.
On February 24, the Interscope-distributed Demevolist Music Group released their compilation mixtape, First Order Of Business; the two-disc set features such future stars as Yung Nate, Show Tufli, J. Means, Proven, and Isa. Oh, and did we mention their flagship artist, Charles Hamilton? Though the mixtape is something of a team effort, CH does get the chance to shine solo on the very last track, MTV Cribs, which finds him discussing his own Harlem pad. Though Sonic, as usual, goes off with the verses (who else can pull off a Red Hot Chili Peppers reference?), MTV Cribs is unique in that it features outside production assistance; in this case, The Chonchords pull off a perfect mix of the electric guitar, sitar, and even good, old-fashioned humming. For the few who might have lost faith in Charles Hamilton, MTV Cribs should help restore it.

Charles Hamilton has a very strange and distinct style, so I can understand why you have to have a certain type of preference to be able to like and appreciate it. I definitely like it though... I love the energy, vibe, and personality he brings to every track. He is always original, and with this beat and background vocals this track is no exception. I only wish he could be just a tad bit more melodic and pleasing to the ear. Some of the stuff you hear from him is kinda off in some ways. I like dude's style and spirit tho...

Charles Hamilton is a one of a kind in this game as his raps are creative and he seems to flow about random things and not one idea. He can sing although sometimes its not that good. The production on this is dope and the humming part is dope! The lyrics are dope and you got to listen close to figure what he's trying to say. Hook is solid and the guitars are alright. One of a kind song by a one of a kind MC. Hot stuff right here!

This isn't a great song. The background vocals are kind of annoying to me. He doesn't sound bad but it isn't great. That being said, I have to agree with "Juanito_88" that he has a distinct style. It doesn't appeal to me but I can't hate on him for coming out with this.

I have not heard many CH records, which were not produced by the man himself. Surprisingly, he sounds very comfortable and relaxed over someone else's boardwork here. Something to think about.
Not really sure what the deal is with the title choice, but I loved the RHCP verses. |

I LOVE this production, I can't even list the many details that amazed me! CH had such a great flow! So unique and genuine.
"I only wish he could be just a tad bit more melodic and pleasing to the ear. Some of the stuff you hear from him is kinda off in some ways. I like dude's style and spirit tho..." Cosign that! |

i didnt like his "well isn't this awkard" mixtape at all...and sadly his voice got annoying to me. Infact the humming was buggin me a bit but the guitar patched things up and his flow...MY GOD..not even a hardcore hater can hate on that. he's got skill. This has to be my favorite CH track AS OF NOW..let me heat up some tea ima jam to this..
this song would have been better without his humming but with a sick flow i'll give it a pass |

This is strange, but its that right kind of strange. His flow is so nice, the beat is growing on me. It won't let me vote for some reason, 4/5 though

charles hamilton is a talented individual, i like everything he has put out, yea his style is different, and i really like it, i like the diversity he brings, if hamilton started to sound like all these other rappers and have that same style, then he would be just another rapper... instead he brings something different to the table, which makes him "charles hamilton" and not another rapper. everyone complains about hip hop hurting, and that because of everyone bitin off each others styles, hamilton does the complete opposite and came into the game with no fear of being different, and this is really impressive

First off, I'm a Charles Hamilton fan. Really like his style and he's got a very distinct voice. I thought he flowed real well on this Conchords production. Speaking of which, the production was crazy. Didn't like the humming all that much, but everything else was crazy.

Charles Hamilton has quickly become my favorite rapper. He's so creative with his songs and samples and does not disapoint with this one either,(I'm a chilli peppers fan 2 so i like dat part). One thing i realized is that it takes me about 2 or 3 listens to his songs to decide how much i really like em but i give it a 4 after one listen.

I actually kind of really like this. Dude is definitely a lyricist and that production is eclectic fire. The vibe sort of reminds me of Bubba Sparxx original joints.
But this is some out of this world type music. I like stuff like this. I was just listening to Kid Cudi, and then I came to listen to this, and it's like I didn't even have to leave the planet I was on. |
