When Chance the Rapper kicked off his 2013, he’d been sipping on that Juice—sipping a little toomuch, judging by the entertainingly discombobulated flows and erratic body movements he exhibited on the video single in question. Now that he’s had a little time to dry out, the Windy City repper is back to show us a more sober, introspective side of his lyrical persona on Acid Rain, the inaugural song release and almost title track off his forthcoming EP. Over a low-key instrumental by Booth-approved beatsmith Jake One, Chance sheds his more dramatic vocal quirks as he reflects on his own self-doubt and insecurity, his nostalgia for simpler times, and the United States’ culture of violence. Feeling this thoughtful cut? Then stay tuned for more new material leading up to the as yet-unscheduled arrival of the emcee’s Acid Rap street album.
