Champain Era - New Years
Producer: Warryn Campbell
Album: New Years
Label: The District (Indie)
On upbeat anthem New Years, Virginia Beach native Champain Era is ready to usher in a changing of the guard. Once again enlisting Warryn Campbell (see Back to the Future) on the production tip, Era continues to amaze listeners with his distinctive sound. After the ball drops on New Years, you’ll find yourself wanting to hit the replay button to catch the witticisms you missed the first time around. Christening the game with a vision that has Champ playing “Ken to these Barbies,” this well-executed album track continues to showcase both the celebration and the growth of hip-hop. With the countdown to ’09 on, Champain Era is one party favor that you’ll want to have handy.

Oh, I liked the drums and what not. It sounded like something the Roots would have smashed or Jay-Z. I'm sort of liking the flow, but I agree...it sort of doesn't have it's own identity and just sounds too much like something else you've heard, but you just can't put your finger on it. I'll still throw it in rotation, but it could have been a little better. Also, it's October. We got a few months until the New Year's homeboy. Champ need to check his calender and re-up on rap topics....lol. I can definitely dig him expressing his faith for God and Christ though. That's definitely what's up!

This does resemble something Hova would be on... 6 years ago, haha. I like Champain Era's style. He works real well w/ Warryn Campbell. I look forward to the album.

Everyone is going to compare any newcomer to someone in the game. Being compared 2 jay z is a honor, champain era has a completely different subject matter No Drug Talk, No Curse Words, and No N word!!! Plus i hear that he preforms with a 7peice go go band from DC. He has a conversational flow like hova and when he rhymes it seem effortless!!!! i personally enjoy this song and the production is crazy!!!!!

I would love to hear this track as the ball drops and the confetti rains down. The music is a great reflection of New Year's Eve ambiance. I just noticed that this Champain guy doesn't cuss in the songs we've heard from him on DJBooth. It takes a clever mc to pull off a banger with no curses. Cheers.
