Chamillionaire - Relax ft. J. Holiday
Artist: Chamillionaire
Featuring: J. Holiday
Producer: Happy Perez
Album: Venom
Label: Chamilitary
When Chamillionaire joined me inside the DJBooth for an interview this past December, we discussed his decision to leak Creepin’ (Solo), the first single off his forthcoming third studio album, Venom. While the record and its The Game-assisted re-release both spent many weeks atop our DJBooth Top Picks chart, urban radio has not been so friendly. Unlike most artists, however, the Houston native has what it takes to turn his situation around. On potential single Relax, producer Happy Perez, whose résumé includes work on Cham’s sophomore LP, Ultimate Victory, provides some poppy production and J. Holiday serves up some soulful guest vocals. Though Cham claims “Venom is not as friendly as people are used to,” the female-oriented, radio-readyRelax is exactly what the Mixtape Messiah needs to return to the charts (and to score a release date for his forthcoming project).

I'm completely stumped as to why Creepin Solo didn't get big in the rap game and at radio.
This is a new look for Cham but I was feelin the change. Can really vibe with this flow, and J Holiday did his thing. Banger for Cham |

Not quite as strong as "Creepin' (Solo)" but still a classic in my eyes. Chamillionaire is absolutely top 15 right now in the mainstream rivaled only by Ludacris, Wayne, Kanye, Jay-Z, Nas and maybe a few select others. His flow is incredible; his lyrics are strong and he's got a taste for production. If Venom sells as poorly as Ultimate Victory than I officially give up on the mainstream. I mean, not even Ludacris' "near-classic" has gone platinum yet. Anyways, I'm feeling this track as a while and J. Holiday definitely exceeded my expectations on the chorus. 5 stars.

Koopa is good on these r&b songs and people dont give him that much credit because when he does make r&b tracks its on a mixtape so he uses an already produced song. Glad to hear him get a solid produced song. Chamillionaire's flow is hot as usual and J. Holiday does his thing on the hook. Banger Chamilitary mayne!

P.S. @ cb126405 - my feelings as to why it flopped are due to the fact a video was never released. Music videos serve as a prime benefactor in radio success. Why one was never released is beyond me. On top of that, it doesn't have pop-radio potential so all of its radio play would come from urban stations and, with only support from hip-hop radio, it wouldn't get much higher than the Top 50 on the Billboard Hot 100. I for one think it was one of the best tracks I've heard in 2009 and it definitely deserves more recognition.

DJ Z, you was right on point. IMO Chamillionaire deserves more, and should get more sales then he got. I like this record alot, like you said it's a different look for Koopa. I'm looking forward to Venom, when it does drop. It's sad to see the state of the Mainstream, but we gotta keep it moving, and Cham knows this. So that is exactly what he does.

In a weird way this reminds me of It's Not Hard 2 Think About U, by Lil O(Feat. Chamillionaire). That's another Track I like alot.

i'm so mad that Creepin' (Solo) didn't do well but the radio are being wack nowadays but this song is great, J. Holiday delivered it on the chorus and Cham always tight on the mic

this is great. Samples the guitar part from Toni, Tone, Tony. J holiday doesnt over power the hook. Chamillonaire deserves more respect.

Cham is dope. I don't think this was a classic but it was pretty damn close. He flowed great over this production and J. Holiday had some good vocals on that hook. 4.5

OK, I really like Cham. I like the vibe he brings, his subject matter (most of the time,) and his energy. I jus wish he could break outta that elementary rhyme scheme he always has (I kno, its a Houston thing...) It just makes the flows on every track sound so similar. (Aight after I say that he would change his flow up on the last verse.) I do like him on this tho, the production was real smooth, and J. Holiday's vocals work well wit the track on the hook.

Production is sick & just fits the mood of the song & Koopa does his thing by keepin it hard for the fellas but likeable to the ladies... the insane hook will definitely drive girls to go wild ... its definetly going to appeal to radio & I hope this gets him some much deserving hype for his album...

I remember when Still Tippin blew up after a year of floating around and people were down on Cham because Slim, Paul and Mike were on the rise. Cham stayed on his grind is on a roll. Another banger for the DC-Texas kid.

this is not the kind of track we're used to from Chamilionaire, but he certainly shows that he's able to make such a relaxing track, which i really liked very much from the first listenin!
i agree with most of ya who said that he deserves much more radio play, more platinum-in-the-first-week, etc... here in europe he Is real bigg, maybe a lil more respected then oversea, hopefully that will change in the future!!!! |

I really would love to give any thing by Koopa a 4 or 5 and normally would but this track I'm just not feeling as much...I appreciate the fact that he's able to change his style (but still sound fantastic) in an effor to gain more radio play.
In my opinion this track isn't nearly as classic (that's right, classic) as Creepin' or even the it's remix. Cham just comes so much harder and with so much more fire on most of his other tracks when compared to this. Maybe I'm just used to him having harder hooks as well, not that Holiday doesn't do a good job - there is just too much contrast here when thinking about why I love Chamillionaire so much. In rotation, 3.5 cause it's King Koopa. |

Its obviously a attempt by Koopa to get some spins on the radio & im pretty shore it will succeed. I like the production & im a fan of J. Holiday's vocals on the hook. Cham always comes correct.

Before I give my comment on this track, I just wanted to say a few things...
This world is full of different people. That's one reason why I listen to hip-hop. No two rappers are the same (though some may sound similar). And yet, they all have the same message, and every once in a while, that message is something real, about things that actually matter. Now, here in Austin, diversity is something that is praised. But you still have the select few that want to put you in the grave for being "different." Which is why today, I, along with others around this great nation of ours, am keeping silent, from dawn until dusk, to show people just how quiet it would be if all of we "different" people didn't exist. Hopefully, someday soon, something will change. But until then, I guess I just gotta keep hoping, keep fighting back, and keep turnin' up the radio whenever Luda or Cham comes on the radio. Which leads me to this song. Very different for Cham, kind of interesting actually. But it's good. I am loving the production. It's just amazing. ANd, as always, my boy Cham flows like (almost) no other. DJ J said he was definitely in the top 15. Well, I gotta call him out on that one. He's in the top 5. Hell, my Supergroup wouldn't be a Supergroup without him! CLASSIC! Anyways, nice song. And as always, thanks Booth. Yall do more for some people than you know you do. That's why I keep comin back here. :) |

You know Chamillionaire is great when a guy like me, who loves RnB almost exclusively, is able to appreciate him. This single is more commercial than anything however. Very good everything, especially Cham's verses.

Since therez a swall booth opinion that this record is just anotha track, yall gota HEAR the predecessor to this 1. This hea is a classic, and that isnt based on tha original version by tony.toni, tone`, its coz it dont take anything away frrom the orirginal, and the og is.. somethin else. this is just a classic and thats it.

def not the Koopa i'm used to. Flows the same, but he comes off rough on this smoother track. Buuuuut, letting it play, it gets better and better. More of an album track than single though.
“Venom is not as friendly as people are used to,” ummm he seemed pretty pissed on Ultimate Victory. Not sure where he's goin with this... 3.5 stars |

Changing my opinion on this track, im not a fan, I cant get use to Koopa's flow & voice over a song thats meant to be smooth. I still like J. Holiday on the hook as well as the production, but im not feeling Chamillionaire on this, he just aint made for these tracks.
