Chali 2na - Lock Sh*t Down ft. Talib Kweli
Artist: Chali 2na
Featuring: Talib Kweli
Producer: Jake One
Album: Fish Outta Water
Label: Decon
In the wake of acclaimed alt-hip-hop group Jurassic 5’s ‘07 split, it’s understandable that Chali 2na is feeling a bit like a Fish Outta Water. Nonetheless, it seems that the husky-voiced emcee’s solo career is going swimmingly, and on the lead single off his forthcoming LP, he lets listeners everywhere know that he can still Lock Sh*t Down. 2na and guest artist Talib Kweli kick off the cut by requesting listeners, “sit back and just watch us bubble,” and, true to form, both emcees “come with more heat than the sun do.” Over Jake One‘s leisurely mix of staccato synths and swung percussion (accented by occasional power-drill sound effects), the twosome spit braggadocio-heavy verses brimming with polysyllabic rhymes, and the contrast between Chali’s stentorian delivery and Talib’s chilled-out but still aggressive flow is just the seasoning this record needs in order to hook listeners. A lead single that tastes good and has good taste, Lock Sh*t Down should convince many to take the dive and pick up a copy of Fish Outta Water when it drops on June 23rd.

It's a shame about J5, but what a platform for Chali to finally showcase his talents as an emcee. Talib has been gettin' it in with the guest features (nice to see).
Some people might not dig Chali's voice, but I am fan. The chorus could use a little work, but rotation for me! |

Not a bad showing by 2na and Talib. It would be even better if we had the rest of J5 on this track :)

First off, how in the world do you pronounce this guy's name? I stared at it for about 5 minutes trying to figure that out, and I still don't get it! :( Is it supposed to be pronounced Tuna???
I like this track. Chorus isn't all that bad in myopinion, although it could use a little tuning up here and there. I'll call this a banger. Ah, ok. Just heard them say his name on the track. So it is Tuna lol. My bad... |

Ay yo shout out to my home@irl tomika. Chali is her favorite MC. She's into rock music, but loves J5 cause of this cat here. This does have appeal to it. I'm Hype about Kweli as usual, but especially now cause of this Reflection Eternal reunion.

Yeah, I was feeling this track. Chali actually had a tight flow. I liked it and Talib was decent. Cool underground cut.

I never would have thought that Chali could get it done on his own, but he shocked the hell out of me. He an Talib ripped this. Also nice beat once again from Jake One.

Someone put this in some speakers like I just did. Think I won't be able to hear for a few weeks. J5 was awesome, and Chali doesn't disappoint with this. Talib is Talib, of course.

that1kid13: I usually agree with you more times than not and again I do agree here. Lyrically this is ok but other than that I can't even say it is ok. But I have also heard worse so I will drop 2 stars.

I think his voice is unique and it will work out well 4 him that it stands out. The production is pretty epic, throw any huge MC on this (Jay-Z or Lil' Wayne) and ppl'd be all up on this callin it an instant classic. Talib came wit a real hot guest verse and Chali's was tight as well.
