A founding member of the Justus League hip-hop crew, Cesar Comanche has been making moves in the music business for over a decade. Currently preparing to release his sixth solo LP, the North Carolina emcee makes his Booth debut with the forthcoming album’s lead single. After asking all the wallflowers in the crowd to step out onto the floor with their Hands High in the air, Cesar spits two laid-back, lyrically-agile verses. 9th Wonder, a longtime friend and collaborator of the emcee (they met back in ‘94, while both were attending NC State) handles production duties; his beat sports some slightly off-kilter percussion, but his tuneful sample lends the record a mellow, old-school vibe that perfectly matches Comanche’s relaxed confidence. The NC vet’s forthcoming album, tentatively titled Die in Your Lap, is scheduled for release February 24th, off the rapper’s own Defenders of the Free World imprint.

I really like the beat, laid back and mellow. His flow was pretty cool, and it worked on this production. The hook was kinda boring and his flow lacked any sort of energy or spark, but its good enough for rotation.

I liked 9th's laid back production style. The old school vibe was fresh. I think this is one of those joints that would fair well in a performance at one of those classic hip hop type shows or basement parties. Cesar was pretty cool. I'll throw this in rotation.

Yes, the flow is real laid back. Yes, the production is real laid back. But that does mean this record is in any way boring. Would I play it in a set? No, but that isn't its aim. Cesar has a solid delivery and 9th always chops it up real nice.
Rotation worthy, no doubt. |
