Cassidy may have made the transition to the independent game since his last solo feature hit the Booth (which was – wow – more than two years ago?!), but that doesn’t mean the Philly mainstay’s any less committed to his grind than when we last saw him. If anything, new single Gotta Get My Paper Up is proof that the emcee’s more determined to craft quality tunes and get money than ever before. Over the minimal but head-noddably catchy chopped-sample boardwork of Neo the Matrix, Cass brings us up to date on his hustle: “I’m tryin to build, still puttin’ time in, I’m on the come-up but I’m still climbing…” In addition to dropping three positive-minded, punchline-laced verses, the artist tops the track off with some more-than-respectable sung vocals on the hook. Cassidy’s enthusiasm is palpable, and the result is an infectious track that should have even the most jaded listeners nodding along. If you’re digging it, stay tuned for further info on C.A.S.H. (Cass Always Stays Hard), which has yet to receive a solid release date.

I'm not saying that Cassidy ruined his own song by choosing to sing the hook... but I'm also not NOT saying that too. Strip the chorus, choose a talented singer to do it, and you have one heck of a song. As is...

He must of not heard Em's album. The weakest part of the record was his singing but the subject matter was also boring. Cassidy has always been a talented lyricist but still rapping about money is getting tiring.

This is such a generic song but I like it a lot. I honestly liked Cassidy's hook. Not many rappers are good at singing so I don't really mind it when rappers sing hooks cuz I don't expect much.

And I tend to like punchline rappers.

Damn! Z somewhat painted the whole thread in a negative tone right here.

The track has no guest vocals for hook doesn’t mean anything… except that Cassidy already damn confident in what he do and it completely comes through in the performance. Yep, having a feature will surely help it to lock down the radio-stations, but it isn't necessarily required to improve the song, in my opinion.

In fact Cassidy handling the hook on it's own will prove to be useful and in turn gives the song a relateability. You have a catchy, hook led, smartly constructed money-chasing anthemic single that completely works (at least for me) because they focus on the strong melody and a raw vocal performance that makes you totally fall in for a huge sing-a-long chorus, and will make all the "hustlers on da corner" feel better just knowing it exists in the universe, with all it's imperfections.

Sure, far from Cassidy's best rhymes, but it's hard to label them as sell-out or hateable either. On the production side, Noe Da Matrix drops a gem right here. It's somewhere between the ruggedness of the underground and the flashyness of those up above with a downright nasty infectious riff and nuggets of overlapping horn flourishes that will tug at you relentlessly. All underscored with lovely syncopated beats that drives the song forward and makes it an ideal choice for radio success. I am sold.

For once, skip any feedbacks above mine and listen to it again. The track is as radio-hit as they can get from rappers such as Cassidy in "street hustlers" lane. But without a guest feature it doesn't have "hit" written all over it, but if given the proper air play and exposure could easily make it into the mainstream charts, as it is.

Are you still not convinced? Are you still not convinced?

Oh s**t, that's where Cassidy's been. I was suprised at first by the beat, almost sounded like a modern day Jackson 5, but in the end it all came together pretty nicely (except for that hook, every rapper wants to be a singer now). Keep it comin Cass.

Actually, I think his hook's not that bad (much better than several other rappers-got a 60's-70's easy-listening vibe). With the rest, I think it should be a hit (doesn't hurt that he's got a Swizzy protege behind the boards).

I'm glad to hear some new Cassidy, but this is just too boring. The production has too many holes, and the hook does not sound good. I did like Cass' verses though. I'm hoping he can pull together a bangin track soon, though.
