Casey Veggies - On Everything
Artist: Casey Veggies
Featuring: Young Scolla , Skewby
Producer: SMKA
Album: The 808 Experiment (Vol. 3)
Label: Roc Nation
I’m not a fan of ranch dressing, but evidently Casey Veggies is; as the Los Angeles rhymesayer himself admits on his first solo feature, the latest leak off SMKA‘s new comp album, “I put it On Everything.” OK, OK, that may not have been the quote’s precise context. In fact, I pretty much made the ranch-dressing thing up for my own amusement. My gross disregard for journalistic standards aside, though, this ambitious jam could hardly be a better introduction to the ever-hustling Cali hopeful. Here, the ATL beat crew’s languid guitar riffs, mellow piano chords and handclap-led percussion set a smooth yet driving mood as the “young python” displays his superhuman drive to succeed. Providing moral support on the guest tip are not one but two freestyle series alumni; Memphis repper Skewby thanks God Almighty for his high IQ on the middle, and Motown’s Young Scolla tops it all off with a soulfully fresh hook and a strong closing verse. In addition to copping The 808 Experiment Vol. 3, released Tuesday and available for download here, fans can keep it locked to for all the latest from Casey Veggies.

As is always the case with an SMKA-produced song, the producers take the cake. Its impossible to sound bad over quality boardwork like this - well, maybe not impossible. Lets go with highly difficult; does that work better?
Never was a fan of Mr. Veggies, but he is beginning to turn me into a believer. As regular readers already know, we are already on board the Young Scolla and Skewby bandwagons. |

I like it, mostly because of the production, but I love how the artists shone through the production.

I may be alone in these sentiments, but I'm not a fan of the beat. Its not bad, but I wish there was more piano, and maybe less hand-claps. For me the verse, and hook shined here. The hook, was catchy, and I found myself humming the melody later on in the day. But the beat was lacking for me. What I liked outweighed what I did not so I still give it 3 stars.

SMKA continues to impress. As usual, they are definitely the highlight of the track. The verses are good, but the incredible production make them sound much better. This will definitely be on my rotation for a while.
