Capone-n-Noreaga - The Reserves
Artist: Capone-n-Noreaga
Featuring: Raekwon
Producer: Tha Bizness
Album: The War Report 2
Label: Thugged Out Ent./Fontana/Universal
Roughly a year after the release of their long-awaited comeback LP, Channel 10, Capone-N-Noreaga are now attempting the risky, yet potentially very rewarding undertaking feat of creating an official follow-up to a classic debut LP. Kicked off with what I’m pretty sure is the first Marvin the Martian sample in Booth history, lead single The Reserves sees CNN hooking up with a fellow Northeastern street vet who recently achieved massive success via the very same strategy. That’s right: over The Bizness’ appropriately gritty, sampled boardwork, the twosome are joined by Wu-Tang alum Raekwon, whose steps up to the mic to drop a few characteristically shifty-eyed guest bars in between the headliners’ hard-nosed opening and closing contributions. So, allow me to pose the obvious question: having gotten your first taste of WR2, do you expect it to be a worthy successor to the duo’s ‘97 freshman effort? We’ll know for certain on June 29, when the album hits online retailers and record stores everywhere.

I've never been a huge fan of CNN post-War Report because, well, there stuff has been inconsistent, all over the place, and unenjoyable. "The Reserves" is something I could get into, though. While all three verses match the energy and tempo of Tha Bizness's production well, its the efforts of the aforemention producers that stood out the most for me.
@jbuntyn90 - I know we allow our members to rate songs on a 1-5 star scale, but I encourage you to back up your ratings (especially if they are of the '1' or '5' variety) with a more concrete claim. Let me know if that makes sense. |

Raekwon on the hook makes the record sound good!!! The like the beat (although the drums sound a little hollow to me) the pattern and the movement in the track makes it knock..Good to hear NORE and Capone together again. (Now I'm going to go pull out my L.A. L.A. 12")

I'm not hating, but let's be honest: the best part of this track is Raekwon, CNN only drags it down. I'm sorry ot be pessimistic, but you know it's the truth.

I loved their debut album "The War Report" from 97. In my opinion it was one of the best hip-hop albums released in 97, and it’s definitely a classic album. As for the follow up WR2, this single featuring Raekwon is a great way to get started.

Gotta disagree with @Nathan. No weak links, everyone delivers within their capabilities.
The beat by Tha Bizness is nuts, straight up hardcore ish and CNN raps accordingly. From "Every Girl" to this, well done fellas! |

This is a straight hood mixtape track here, not my style but I could see this getting play from booming car stereos on my block.
P.S that flute doesn't remind anyone of a certain Big Pun Track?? |

@jbuntyn90, thats exactly what we are looking for.
As for the track, I've never been a fan of Noreaga, and I agree with Sandman that Rae is the best part of the track. In rotation, but barely. |

I loved this song. The upscale beat makes you just want to crunk dance. I have never heard of Capone-n-Noreaga but they are now one on my list to watch out for. Beat was sick and lyrics were equally as good

This would have been such a hit in the mid -90s but unfortunatley im my ears have grown up and decided this just sounds like it was mashed up and put together at the last second. Verses are average. solid at best and the production is really nothing special. Even Raekwon couldnt save this joint
