When a legendary emcee gets together with a legendary producer, the result is usually a letdown because expectations are impossibly high. However, there’s absolutely no letdown in the works when Bun B teams up with DJ Premier for Let Em Know, a track off of his forthcoming album Trill O.G. Bun begins the festivities with a R.I.P. shout-out to the late and great Guru and then Primo jumps in, dropping one of those old school Gang Starr beats that remind you of the early ‘90s. From there both hip-hop vets showcase why they are still legends in the game: Premier flips a sample of Pimp C’s voice to compliment the sharp percussion, and Bun goes hard on the beat, spitting a mixture of lyricism and aggression that offers proof of why he’s one of the elite emcees in the game. Add in some classic Primo scratching and you’d be hard pressed to call this song a failure on any level. But I’m just one man, what’s your verdict Booth readers? Does Let Em Know have you hyped for Trill O.G.’s August 3, release date?

Can we get an entire album of "Let Em Know"'s? Please Bun? Please Premo? What do we need to do in order to make this happen? How about a batch of my grandmother's chocolate chips cookies (for starters)? Let me know.

Damn homey.. this joint is real NEEDED right now for the game. Reminds me of Royce the 5'9 's BOOM joint.. But Premo keeps the same formula's all the time anyway. Classic.

well I was expecting something amazing after seeing it was rated 4.8. And i got everything i expected. I thought Bun B was kinda weak on Trillionaire, but he came extremely hard. I mean dayummmnnnnnn. This was sick. Not much of a hook, but I actually like it. 4.5

I was born and raised in NYC. As soon as the beat started playing, my mind immediately started paintin' pictures of the 90's era of rap black and white video, project houses. When Bun started rapping the good ol' times of southernplaylisticcaddilacmuzik kicked in.

I can't possibly understate how historically important it is for a Houston emcee to jump on a Premier beat, and if it was going to be anyone, it had to be Bun.
If you don't like this track, you don't like hip-hop. |

Bun B is just one of my new guilty pleasures that I have had for the past couple of years. He is so underrated in my opinion. That being said, I'm not feeling the production on this track by Premier. The Chorus is cool with Big L and a few other sick artists getting cut up. Bun B's lyrics don't disappoint. Dude is just NASTY with a Mic! If the Beat was better, this would be rated way higher by me.

Bun def. came up to the plate on this track. The production gets a little tiring to listen to because of the over looping. Bun's verses and Big L's hook - 3 stars, production is a two at best for me. Sorry folks.

Pay attention, there's a quiz on what kind of Hip Hop this is after your first listen. You'll know everything you need to pass it. I'll even give you the answer if you're unsure: Classic Hip Hop.
If you answered Banger, In Rotation, OK, or Garbage, you have failed. Give up, you'll never graduate from Dope University. Go ahead and stick to your high school diploma. |
