I was skeptical when I first heard Bruno Mars on B.o.B’s smash hit Nothin on You, and even when I heard him again on Travie McCoy’s Billionaire. I imagined Bruno Mars as someone who’d pop up, make a few joints, then vanish. But after hearing his new record, The Other Side, I’m now impressed and intrigued to see what else Bruno can cook up. Laced by the Smeezingtons, the production duo that Mars is one half of, and co-produced by Mike Caren, The Other Side provides us with just a small glimpse of Bruno’s talents. Bringing in Cee-Lo and B.o.B for vocal assistance on the record, the trio create a jam that’s simultaneously retro and futuristic. After one listen, I caught myself singing along to the chorus, and I must say that Mars has made me take an interest in his future work. Having put in his time as a hook man, Bruno Mars is ready to show what he has to offer as a solo artist with his four track EP, It’s Better if You Don’t Understand, dropping Tuesday.

After lending his vocals to B.o.B's breakout smash "Nothing On You," it was only right that Bobby returned the favor. This isn't as catchy as "Nothing on You," but I found it to be very enjoyable. This could win at radio for Mars, who by all account has a very very bright future ahead of him.

I like the sound of this. This song has lots of things going for it. Although it isn't really that catchy, it still works. 3.5 stars.

B.o.B. fit in perfectly. A rapper who can jump on any song (Wayne, Luda, Fab) is very valuable. Judging by this performance, I think we could see many more B.o.B. features in the future. It was nice to hear from Cee-Lo. He's got a great voice. I can't not mention the main artist. Mars was good too. He's still Mr. "Nothin On You" to me

Hey, liking the new layout! /late
I didn't really think this guy had any staying power, but coloured me shocked, this track shows he def does- not to mention it's a dope track. Cee-Lo and B.o.B.'s contributions are almost flawless. Cee-Lo's part is just a testimony to the man's incredible soul. Unlike XuUP17, I can't find myself calling this guy "Mr. Nothin' On You" after this... 4.5/5 |

That hook he had on "Nothing On You" was classic! Doesn't sound like your typical R&B track but I still enjoyed it... Bruno is extremely talented! Well done!

Yeah I hate to tell ya but this isn't going to be big...sadly. And if I'm wrong you can shove it in my face. It really sounds like it belongs on Bobby's new album so I'm not sure who's influencing who. That hook is irresistible though!

Damn! What a trio. If these guys were to make a whole CD as a group it would be a classic. They work well together and we all know of their diversity. Nice to see Bruno step out of the hook singing and make a great song.

I like the hook the most. The intro was a little to slow for a pop jam...in my opinion. The hook is nice though. B.O.B. is okay on this song.

Anyway, when I first heard him on Nothin' On You I had no idea the dude was this talented, but now I'm starting to think he could have a future every bit as bright as B.o.B. Incredible versatility, great voice, the dude's built to win. Not sure about this being a radio hit (mostly cause radio's lame) but I know I'll be playing it for weeks.

Great voice by Bruno Mars. did not realized on "Nothing On You" becasue B.o.B. stole the show on that song.
B.o.B. sound perfect for this Song. i love the beat. the Song kinda reminds me of "crazy"...maybe its just me!!! |

Please explain how you can question the amazing talent that is Bruno and that name on top of it is intergalactic (spchck??). His voice is strong and melodic and versatile and chill and robust and concrete and his art is so appreciated by those looking for genuine singers. Plus adding C and B.O.B this needs to be accpeted by the masses, those that disagree should watch out for the big star that will soon hit you on the head, accept it now, it will hurt less when you look stooopid (purposely spell check)!!

I love the way Bruno sounds on this record. However, I agree with Z -this isn't as catchy as B.o.B's record or even Travis McCoy's.

First and foremost, Bruno Mars is very talented singer, however, I preferred him on "Nothin' On You" more than I do his solo effort. While the track was good, I wasn't completely sold on Bruno's vocals throughout the entire song. Production was real smooth and was a perfect match for Bruno's vocals. All together, I would play this again... and again if the situation called for it.

Mars can be a top RnB artist if he follows through on the success from "Nothin on You". It's not as successful but it works for me. It's a good song but not excellent. Has a bright chorus. Decent but I know Bruno will have another smash in no time.

wow. first thing that really impressed me when the hook hit was how well bruno's voice and the smeezington's production really meshed together- fantastic! cee-lo and b.o.b both brought their own dimension to the song and were both very solid. definitely a classic from me! maybe some radio play?

I think this is really good actually. Mars can sing pretty awesome. And then add Cee-Lo It makes it good. and honestly not a big fan of B.o.B but I dig him in this song! it is really good with a soul feel to it.

First off this beat is sick, goes well with everyone on this. Bruno Mar's vocals were smooth and sounded superb with the beat. Cee-Lo's part was sick, what I expect to hear from him. BOB came with nice wordplay and flow. This has been stuck in my head all day.

I like this, its very fresh. I'm glad B.o.B got on this too, because its definitely his style too. Cee-Lo was also a great addition. I hope Bruno Mars has a big future.
