Bruno Mars - Liquor Store Blues
Artist: Bruno Mars
Featuring: Damian Marley
Producer: The Smeezingtons
Album: Doo-Wops & Hooligans
Label: Atlantic/Elektra Records
The word of the day is “Irony.” As in, it is sheer irony for pop/r&b darling-on-the-rise Bruno Mars to get arrested in Las Vegas under suspicion of narcotics possession on Sunday, only to release a single called Liquor Store Blues on Tuesday. Say it with me now: ironyyyyyyy. As the title suggests, this second single from Mars’ upcoming debut album ventures into much darker territory than his previous #1 hit, Just The Way You Are. Lush reggae instrumentation courtesy of Mars’ led production team The Smeezingtons sets a backdrop that is apropos for Damian Marley to lend a verse, while our troubled friend Bruno Mars laments his stagnant life with the help of whiskey and cigarettes. I’m really hoping that Mars isn’t getting too swept up in the whirlwind of his rising fame. He’s so talented on numerous levels (that voice is one in a million), it’d be a shame to see him go the route of Rick James or Whitney Houston. We’ll see if the developing situation affects the scheduled October 5 release date for his amusingly titled upcoming album Doo-Wops & Hooligans. Keep it locked for any updates.

I cannot wait to hear Mars' debut, uninterrupted from start to finish, when its available early next month. This is further proof of his diverse and unique talents.

The elements Mars uses to make a track are more than diverse. Not only is he able to relate to women but flips the switch on this one with reggae-vibed tunes which is a whole another genre from just the way you are. Then gettin a feature from Bob Marley's son makes this single that much worthwhile.Irony or not, there is none when it comes to the talent that Mars exuberates, not just only on this track but more to follow on the album and am certain which everyone will be able to relate too. Do-Woop is a genre that relates to women while Hooligans sacarms to relate to the men.So thus the album title Do-woops and Hooligans. This crooner is definitely in running for album of the year.Get the album out October 5th.Classic!!!

Everything Bruno produces is 5 star material. His consistency is amazing, hopefully he can keep his legal issues straight.

This track is great. I love Bruno's vocals and they work perfectly over this reggae-style production. If he continues with this diversity in his music his album is going to be an experience...

This won't be nearly as big of a hit as Just the Way You Are, but its musically far more impressive. If he can stay away from that white girl Mars might just become the best singer and producer in r&b-pop.

Every thin Bruno Mars touches turns to gold, and adding junior gong just makes this even better.

Love it. This song just lets me zone out and forget whats going on in life. And is he saying "drag" or "track" because I thought it was drag but all the lyrics websites are saying track?

I think the weak point here was damion, i don't think he was really needed for this track. just because the production is raggae inspired doesn't necarily mean that they need a raggae singer. Bruno wa fully capable enough to do this track on his own.

the reggae influence in Hawaii is huge and it shows in his voice. i dont think there is another r&b singer who would be able to pull this off.

I prefer Just The Way You Are, but these are two unique, very impressive products. Bruno has a promising future. I hope he makes it out of this narcotics thing alright.

Wow. Bruno Mars... the more I hear from him the more I love him. Can't wait for his album to drop!!! Love the smooth soft quality of his voice, but really love when he shows the raw emotional aspect of his vocals. Love the reggae vibe of this track & love the Damien Marley appearance. Get em Bruno Mars! Album releases in less than a week, can't wait to get my hands & ears on it.
