Brown Bag All-Stars - Crumbling Down
Artist: Brown Bag All-Stars
Producer: Mr. Green
Album: Brown Bag Season Vol. 1
Label: Nostomania Records
If it’s been a minute since the Brown Bag All-Stars stepped into the Booth with a brand new feature, the NYC crew have a damn good reason: they’ve been holed up in the studio, prepping their their debut full-length for next year. “Next year?!” Don’t fret, Brown Bag-o-holics; the crew have assembled a selection of unreleased material for you to enjoy in the meantime and, judging by the quality of inaugural leak Crumbling Down, these are considerably fresher than your average leftovers. On this reflective selection, the group depart from the lyrically-aggressive style we’ve heard on past features, lacing the gritty piano-bell grooves of beatsmith Mr. Green with real talk on a wide variety of subjects – from the stress of the musical grind, to the loss of loved ones, to the difficulty of finding direction in life. Freestyle series alum Soul Khan in particular drops some serious knowledge, advising listeners, “You ain’t gotta be another Martin or Marcus, but ain’t sh*t changed by the hard and the heartless.” Showcasing a fresh new side of the All-Stars, this reflective jam is just the beginning of the freshness in store on Brown Bag Season Vol. 1, due out May 17.

Mr. Green, your plane is boarding sir. I could seriously let this instrumental ride out with nobody spitting over the top. I'd loop it, in fact. Nothing crazy over the top, just very soulful and very hip hop.
On the mic, I have to give it up to Soul Khan, whose delivery, vocals, and bars always impress. |

I've never heard this Nina Simone song sampled like this. Lord knows its been done a bazillion times, but I don't mind it this time. I think it fits well with the hooks mellow tone. The beat is simple yet effective. Keep it coming Mr. Green. Brown Bag All-Stars verses were pretty good too. I'm definitely feeling your style.

Green is such a great producer. I've loved him ever since I heard his album with Pacewon. The All-Stars definitely do the beat justice, especially, Soul Khan. He is definitely the most talented member. I encourage you guys to check out his Grind Time battles, his wordplay is insane.
