Some folks drop tracks daily and projects weekly as quantity takes priority over quality. Not Brother Ali. He’s one of those emcees that’s deliberate in what he releases and when. As Ali says right from the beginning on his new release Writer’s Block, he’s not trying to be one of those dudes that makes hundreds of new songs and ain’t none of them good. With Jake One on production, he talks doubt, family life, his process and more, and because it’s been a minute since the last Brother Ali track (2010’s Breaking Dawn Boys, you find yourself taking in every word and appreciating each verse. This dope cut is off the upcoming Mourning In America and Dreaming In Color, a joint project with Jake One.

What an easy way to bypass writers block....write a song about writers block. Just playing, this song was really good and Brother Ali always delivers. Did it get the message across as well as Em and Royce did? I'm not sure, but regardless I'll be playing this a few more times tonight!

I'm not really a fan of the old-school snare-drum feel to the beat. The flow of Brother Ali was pretty good. Sound like Jay-Z a lil bit. Good track.

Just a solid Brother Ali track. Like usual. Probably the reason why I like him so much is because of just the way he raps. He kinda mixes singing and rapping. Kinda like ODB but not like ODB. lol. I don't know how to explain it.
