Brisco - Anita Baker
Artist: Brisco
Producer: Allstar
Album: OG Kush Mixtape
Label: Poe Boy/Cash Money/Motown
While the overall response to Brisco‘s last feature, Street Medicine lead single On the Wall, was for the most part positive, nearly everyone agreed that Weezy‘s Auto-Tuned hook was, well, lacking. Fortunately, the first official leak off the Floridian emcee’s forthcoming pre-album mixtape can only be regarded as a step up on the chorus front. Here, producer Allstar looks to soul icon Anita Baker for inspiration, borrowing a romantically chill, synth-driven instrumental and a silky-smooth hook from her ‘87 single, No One in the World. Over this tuneful backdrop, Brisco tells the touching tale of how a chance meeting at the local tiki bar led to sex, weed-smoking, shopping sprees and, eventually, true love. Ah, l’amour… Like roughly a gazillion other projects, the artist’s OG Kush street album is set to hit the net on the official holiday of weed-smokers everywhere, April 20. Following the mixtape drop, fans should keep their fingers crossed for the summer arrival of his endlessly-delayed debut LP… hopefully.

Believe it or not - this is my favorite song of the newest batch. The Anita sample is done with class and really was worked into the meat of this record without making it sound cheesy or worse - making Brisco sound cheesy. Dope song, could have made an album (minus the inevitable clearance issues they would have had to deal with).

This is cool, Briscoe has always had some dope rhymes and he keeps it up here. Not really into the production but it's still def roto worthy.

Absolutely feeling the beat and Brisco, all I'm gonna say is - way to step up when it counts, ya did good. The lyricism itself is not mind blowing but remains competent enough to carry the heavy audio weight.

I feel like this track is radio ready!!
Production is very good and well polished!! Verses are good and his flow matches the beat well!! Hook needs to be turned up a little bit since it almost disappears into the background!! Banger.... |

Sound like something i'd flip through when I was tuning radio stations. I'd let it rock.

I'm kind of iffy on this track. I love the production. Anita Baker is one of my favorite artists. The beat was kept smooth just like she was. I was kind of expecting the same from the artist. It was kind of too rough for such a smooth track. Maybe it's just the old-school chick that I am. lol

Brisco is usually in my books only because of the people he is surrounded by, (rick ross, weezy, birdman). This song, however, is a very good production by Brisco. A very good song.

I call this a Piles love song, a thuggish ruggish bone grindin on a sweet airy hook and not disrespecting the creative genius they borrowed for the hit..did you catch the Uggh too (wait are we sure this isn't a Piles knock-off?)Kush another reason the gov't needs to stop hatin and embrace cause its 'what the world needs now' in addition to love lol

I did not like this song at all. I am really not a fan of R&B so this song did not appeal to me at all. I did like some of the lyrics about the girl he was describing though. The lyrics made the song a 2 for me
