After a short stint with Irv Gotti’s The Inc., R&B singer Boxie signed a record deal with Polo Grounds Music and J Records. First heard by many on Playa’s Rock with Hurricane Chris, the 19-year old is trying to become “the face of street R&B” with his new single, Turn It Up. Looking to pick up a potential chick, Boxie boasts about everything you’d expect… from a rapper. While R&B purists will cringe at the thought, Boxie displays powerful vocals and gives more effort than most self-proclaimed “street singers.” With a heavy violin-brass beat, Turn It Up might live up to its name on the radio and in the clubs, continuing Polo Grounds‘s current hit streak.
I AGREE WIT OBECALP, CHRIS BROWN WOODA MADE THIS JOINT FAR BETTA BUT DUDE IS TRYIN SO I'LL GIVE HIM DAT, THE SONG AINT NOTHIN SPECIAL N NEITHER IS HIS VOCALS.
This isn't going to get any play or get this dude any recognition. It just seems that Mario, Chris Brown, and Omarion already has his spot; and I doubt he can dance like them, so he is going to have a hard time. I don't think this is going anywhere. It's not garbage, but It just sounds like Chris Brown killed this twice already!
I think this dude has a bright future. He has a good voice, and if all else fails he could be a good feature artist (hear Playa's Rock by Hurricane Chris). I can see this song getting some major radio play.
To say that Boxie is trying to be like anyone else is like comparing one apple to a basket of 'em. How would you like him to sound? It's pretty hard to sing well without being compared to anyone who has done well before you... This song needs work, particularly a new beat, but Boxie has some fight in him.
I think he does sound a lil like Chris. He def got the swagg down he sings wit mad confidence. He's not as polished as the others but once he gits in the biz fo a while n a fan base. He'll git it.
Just to let ya'll know Boxie & I are from the same hood. To be exact, he lives right around the corner from me. FYI: As far him tryna sound like Chris B.. NOT! Boxie had this style years before Chris Brown aired (although CB is the MAN). The proof is on the undergrounds & I have 'em all. The Inc held Boxie back & let CB get put on first. UNBELIEVABLE!! "middle fingaz to the Inc". Ya'll get ready for Boxie!! Trust me. His talent is gonna prevail. This single is NOT his best.
