Bow Wow - For My Hood
Artist: Bow Wow
Featuring: Sean Kingston
Producer: Julkeyz
Album: Who Is Shad Moss?
Label: Cash Money/Universal Republic
It’s been over a year since we last heard a solo feature from Bow Wow (2009’s You Can Get It All), and in that time his biggest publicity has come from an at least tangential connection to some Kat Stacks craziness (never a good thing). Today Bow is here to put all that behind him and finally get back to making music with the release of his new single For My Hood, featuring a hook from Sean Kingston and some assorted yelling from DJ Khaled (surprise). Sonically, Hood rides along on a lightly brassed, bouncingly percussive beat courtesy of Julkeyz, which Bow uses to drop some seriously mature rhymes about his relationship with God and his efforts to help the less fortunate through the recession (seriously). It’s all a slightly odd combination, but somehow it works. So how about it Booth? Will you be putting Bow’s latest on your iPod? Fans should expect much more music now that the recent Cash Money/Universal Motown signee is gearing up to drop his new album Who Is Shad Moss?, slated to hopefully drop sometime this year.

Like many of our amazing Booth members I watched the 2010 Hip Hop Honors program that aired on VH1 earlier this week. While most of the performances were awful (Gucci) and clearly not rehearsed ahead of the taping (Gucci), a few performances were quite impressive. One of them was courtesy of Bow Wow. Yup, the same dude who said last year he was going to retire from the rap game. I guess he fooled us!
Though the Kingston hook is only a good look if it gets him radio play (ooh, I rhymed that), there isn't much for me to criticize here (except for the needless inclusion of DJ Khaled ad libs). |

i think its funny that he goes from rapping about giving kids a chance for education, to rhyming about tearing down the mall! Definitely a nice hook from Kingston. There seemed to be lines in here that came from the heart, so why not throw him a 4?!

Bow Weezy back with somethin to prove. This sounds like a victory record, like he's back and ready to redeem himself. I'm definitely feelin this, a graet feel good track with some hot flow from Bow. And being from Columbus, I loved the shout
out in the opening seconds. |

nice...maybe the most mature song ive ever heard from Bow Wow. a lot of ppl say his biggest struggle to become a legit rap star was that he makes too much music for a younger audience and is always rappin bout the ladies. this is a nice transition and a step towards being a better RAPPER. also, Kingston was smooth.

Sean Kingston is only good for one season...summer. And this is a summer smash in the making. Bow Wow seems to be on his way to relevance again with this one...

Two Sean Kingston features in one day, haha WTF. Seriously though, Sean was pretty enjoyable with this one. I think people may be a little too hard on Bow Wow. The kid can spit and if you have downloaded any of his previous mixtapes, it is very obvious.
The track itself isn't my favorite, but I did in fact like the Summer vibe that came with it. Bow Wow > Sean Kingston > Production. |

Why is DJ Khaled on here? Arrrgh! Never been a fan of Bow Wow, IMO he is only good when he has guest features. The problem is I've never been a big fan of Mr Kingston either haha.....However, this isnt bad, it flows nicely...Did they forget to do a third verse?? I dont think it would really stand out from the hundreds of other tracks DJs could spin in the clu...Hopefully for the official single he recruits Drake to finish off that Cuff Yo Chick record and drop that....that songs a banger! This one is just in rotation...3 stars

LOL @3Roshambo3!!! -- Nicki Minaj is quite annoying hey :p
Bow Wow impressed me hear, his spitting in lyricism was what took me, production. Meh. Heard it before to me, and Sean Kingston just doesn't do anything for me. But all in all I did enjoy this track, shows just how good Bow Wow is. |

Seriously, There is NO benefit of having Khaled on this. I've always been ehhh on Bow and while I wouldn't say the chorus is infectious, it's a solid effort from Kingston. 14 yo Julkeyz could be one to monitor.

Doesnt sound like Kingston brought the energy like he usually does on the hooks. Sounds kind of lazy, eventhough it does sounds good. Bow sounds the same. Nothin big their. I dont know why artist think that if they have Dj Khaled screamin its gonna be a hit. This one wont sell.

Like every artist who became famous in their teens, Bow has struggled to gain an adult audience without losing his core fan base, and this track is a great example of being caught between both worlds. Lyrically he's as mature as we've heard him, and he brings in Khaled for a hood co-sign, but he reaches to teen hearthtrob Kingston for the hook...and you know what else? It works. I wouldn't be surprised if this made some serious noise on radio.

umm.Wow..This Bow Wow?..Didn't expect this kind of track from him..& he's signed 2 Young Money now? Be on the lookout 4 a Bow Wow ft. Drake collab soon...lol..But serously tho' this is a great start-off track..If his whole album sounds similiar to this, he could generate huge sales in this bootleg heavy world..

The song is kind of cute... I didn't feel like Bow Wow really excercised his vocals completely. Sean Kingston has such a soft voice, him saying "i put that on my hood" sounds a little weak. I don't take it seriously, but maybe it's not supposed to come off strong?? o.O idk.

DJ Khaled was not needed on this at all but Good song overall. I'm anxious to hear music from this new venture with Cash Money. Its a good move for Cash Money to have a young veteran on the roster. I have to say that Cash Money is gonna be straight killing the concert tours by themselves. I for see sold out shows, and lines around the block. They could open and close the show single-handedly. Nice job Bow Wow, and round of applause for Cash Money's huge comeback.

Too much Kingston on the booth lately, if Bow Wow wants to appeal to an adult fan base then he shouldnt put Kingston his track. And nobody wants to hear loud ass for no reason Khlaed mouth off.

when did Bow Wow turn so mature? This is actually fairly good. The lyrics have a lot more maturity than his earlier tracks, though this new one is nothing earth shattering. Kingston helps out with keeping the mood light, but what's the point of Khaled?
