In late ‘07, Bow Wow felt that it was time to part ways with Jermaine Dupri, his musical mentor of more than a decade. Less than a year later, Bow realized just how wrong he was and decided to patch things up, an experience that served as inspiration for a brand new single off the long-delayed New Jack City Part 2. Bow and JD split the track equally, citing their rabid female fanbases and the similar brands of swagger they bring when they Roc Da Mic as evidence that they’re meant to be in this business together. With Dupri also handling production duties, the track feels like a family reunion (even though the collaborators have been apart for less than a year). Roc Da Mic is the first half of a new dual single (the second, Baby You Can Have It All, is coming soon) off New Jack City Part 2, which is set to arrive in stores and online this March.
