Bootsy Collins - Hip-Hop @ Funk U
Artist: Bootsy Collins
Featuring: Ice Cube , Snoop Dogg
Producer: Bootsy Collins
Album: Tha Funk Capital of the World
Label: Megaforce
The naturally mood-elevating bass stylings of Bootsy Collins never seem to go out of style, and that enduring appeal has allowed the funk legend to keep dropping albums at a steady clip to this very day. Be that as it may, we in the Booth have never featured the seasoned vet… until today. The perfect occasion to introduce the Parliament-Funkadelic alum to uninitiated heads, Hip Hop @ Funk U finds Collins coming together with a few of rap’s most storied vets. Over a sprawling funk groove, anchored – of course – with a rock-solid bassline, West Coast icons Ice Cube and Snoop Dogg grab the mic to celebrate the headliner’s classic contributions to the game, the latter even proclaiming himself “Bootsy’s baby brother.” Public Enemy frontman Chuck D brings some Northeastern flavor to the final third, dedicating his verse to all the funk greats who have passed away. Topped off with an unknown singer’s infectious hook vocals and a heartwarming cameo from a young “Snoop protégé,” Funk U should brighten the day of anyone with a funky bone in his or her body. If you’re digging it, prepare to journey to The Funk Capital of the World on April 26, when Collins’ latest LP hits stores.
Note: The stream for Hip Hop @ Funk U has been temporarily been removed.

I guess I don't really understand this type of music. I've never been much of a fan of gangster West Coast rap either, so the big names don't do much for me either.

Live instrumentation with three veteran emcees on board? You can't lose, right? Well, this doesn't pale in comparison to Booty's older material, but its still a fun listen. Nice to see him working with respectable artists and not flash-in-the-pants emcees of today's generation (just to make a quick digital dime).

It's Bootsy baaaaby. I love him and he's a certified legend but I'm not really feeling this track maybe if it was just Bootsy I could dig it more. Snoop fits because he's as animated as Bootsy but Cube a bit out of place.
