Bone Thugs-N-Harmony - D.O.A. [Freestyle]
Artist: Bone Thugs-N-Harmony
Producer: No I.D.
Album: Unreleased
Label: BNTH Worldwide/Warner Bros.
It’s a good time to be a Bone Thugs-N-Harmony fan; now that all five Bone brothers are back together (Flesh and Bizzy have reunited with Layzie, Krayzie, and Wish), the group is preparing to release Uni5: The World’s Enemy, their most highly-anticipated album since the early 2000s. To build yet more buzz, the Cleveland icons recently unleashed a brand new freestyle. Though it seems like every human, dog, cat, bird, and reptile (and from what I’ve heard, a few paramecia) has freestyled over No I.D.‘s beat from Jay-Z‘s D.O.A., the Thugs’ effort should certainly place in the Top 5. Like Hova, they see Auto-Tune as a overused effect, and advise all aspiring artists to steer clear of of such musical crutches. Fans can catch the Bone Thugs on their upcoming nationwide tour, which begins August 30th at Santiago, MN’s Teatro Caupolican.

The reason all this is goin down is because too many artists have abused Auto-tune. If used right, it can be real tight (I know a lot of people have mentioned that) but this is still a sick freestyle. They all ripped this beat apart.

I didnt know that Jay Z said that only "Kanye nd Wayne" use autotune right. yeah, thats a lil unfair to anyone else. they dont always use it correctly in my opinion.
This is good. i disagree Z. This is better than Jay Z's... but did u hear Trey Songz version? THAT was FIRE. |

How do u use auto tune wrong? i think most stuff i hear with auto tune is good.. i dont see a difference between how wayne and kayne use it compared to most other artists, i did start hearing it from t-pain and kanye first though.

Bizzy killed this 1. Krazie always bringin heat, Layzie and Flesh tied for 3rd, Wish did his thing 2. This HOT but im always be feelin the Original more ... BANGER!!!
"T-Pain has an incredible ear for melody, and he embeds his robotic vocals with SURPRISING SOUL. That soul is the REASON the mob of T-Pain knockoffs can’t replicate his sound, and the reason I’m shockingly still not sick of him." (c) Nathan.S |

I'm Bias, my musical ear is somewhat tuned to BTNH at all times cause I grew up listening to them. They are the original reason I fell in love with Hip Hop. That E.1999 Album was the 1st rap album I picked up and never put down. B4 that it was MC Hammer and Kris Kross for me. For a second it looked like they would be seperated from Bizzy and Flesh forever, but the world is back in store. Now It just time for Bizzy to find his delievry again, his lyrics are still there though. This is by far the 2nd best version of D.O.A. behind, Slaughterhouse.

If I had never heard the Slaughterhouse D.O.A freestyle this would be number 1 but with that said; both are fiyuh, the interesting thing to me since the whole D.O.A. craze I've seen a lot less garbage music. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough for it or maybe Hip-Hop is truly experiencing it's renaissance. One thing is for certain auto-tune should be left up to a select few... I've never heard Drake sound bad on it, nor Jamie Foxx or for that matter anyone who can truly sing... Kanye has had a few misses and don't get me started on Lil' Wayne.

I was going to write a review, but then I realized I'd pretty much be saying the same thing as BDF44. I grew up (and still am) a HUGE Bone Thugs-N-Harmony fan. From the days I was pre-teen bumping E. 1999 Eternal 24/7 without even giving other music a chance, to my early teens when I had my own BTNH website called TDG (The Double Glock) that was affiliated with No Surrender, all the way up until now. These guys put it down for hip-hop in a way most artists never have or will, and still fly so under the radar. I'm glad to see they worked out their differences, are back to all five members, and ripping over tracks I would have never thought I'd hear them on. Legends.

@BDF44 - I never thought I'd hear someone say they used to bump Kris Kross! I did too homie! It was them along with TLC back in the 90's for me (just thought I'd add).
It's AMAZING how many great lyricists have jumped on this DOA beat and completely DESTROYED it! Asher Roth killed it. Slaughterhouse.. well.. slaughtered it (yes, EVEN JOEY). And now the legendary BONE THUGS-N-HARMONY have gotten back together and completely ripped it. It's crazy. All of these versions are far better than the original (even though I like that one too). I also agree with BDF44 that Bizzy's lyrics were on point but his delivery isn't the best on here. I didn't know they were planning on releasing a new album but now I'm definately anticipating it. |

I'm rating this 4 and 1/2 STARS. It gave me the same chills as I felt when I 1st heard Thuggish Ruggish Bone. Glad to hear them back together at last. Now if only Tony Toni, Tone would get back together!
