Several weeks ago, DJ Booth exclusively revealed that Bobby Valentino had left his recording contract at DTP and Def Jam. Instead of waiting around for a new recording contract to pop up, the Atlanta-born crooner has gone the independent route and will release his next two projects without the pressure of major label demands or radio-play politics. As apart of his “appetizer,” a six-song EP entitled Come With Me, Valentino has redone the classic Marvin Gaye song, What’s Going On. “I feel like a lot of artists really are not talkin’ about the issues,” says Valentino. Over a simple acoustic guitar, courtesy of co-producer Bill Jabr, the singer discusses the problems plaguing today’s society. Interestingly enough, the downward spiral of the music industry wasn’t among them.
hmmm this is different just using the acoustic guitar as his beat..he has a good vocal range and maybe without a major label now he can do his own thang, slow and mellow but it aite..
This track is WACK AS HELL! Sorry for the harsh words; but this ballad is something that I can't get through without laughing out loud. This is really weak. No where near the quality of the classic. There is no way this should be referenced with the classic. I can't take it anymore...LOL@ GLOBAL WARMING verse!
i like the fact that he tryin to be socially conscious but i hate the acoustic, yo blaze how is global warming funny it affect us today, when marvin gaye wrote what going on he wrote bout racial injustice and war among other things he wrote bout what was affect society
he sounds great. Way to do something different.. how can you hate on global warming?? that's a MAJOR issue in the world right now that effects all of us.
i like da guitar mayne its smooth n lets u think when u listen to da lyrics. Da issues dis song brings up r serious n effect us all. Aint nuthin funny bout wats really happenin. Aint no fairy tale we livin in bout tyme some ppl address da facts. gud vocals n i luv da melody. Wat can i say i luv a smooth style.
Yo blaze i am with you. anit no reason to start now we got mad oil chillin some where so when we dry every one else out we can raise the prices this probably anit 100 percent tru but this country is all out of wack you gotta find a loop whole some where to survive its not about the issues we having any more we will never not have issues because its all about politics lol As far as the song i am for bobby going idependent he can do it he has good talent but not with this song
He sings well and the music is amazing...to me it's good he talks about something which isn't motherfucker, pussy and so on...finally someone sings about real issues!!
I agree with you leslie j. Music is a place for expression about self and society. It should be diverse--not just money, cars, and women. That's the difference between the 21st century and the 20th century.
Anybody, including DJ Blaze commenting on this with ignorant comments is a horrible music fan. You're music choice sucks! This is some good, positive stuff. This is mixed, writing and performed great. We need more tracks like this. I'm glad Bobby did this, cuz I was a bit tired of hearing him sing generic vocals over the overpriced dime-a-dozen Timbo style synth beat about some girl. That's getting old. Popular music is so bland and the same these days. It's about time we get back to the lyrics mayne! 5 stars. Classic! Marvin Gaye would be proud. I never scooped a previous B.V LP or EP, but I'll definitely be copping this. Bobby Valentino & Bill Jabr are putting it down. Maybe this is what Bobby wanted to do all along...jus hit slave owner record label wants him to keep making "one hit wonder" single type trash that's not helping the young people expand their minds whatsoever. I say next to the "Pop, Lock and Drop It", "Lip Gloss", "Shawty is a Ten", "Drink N' Smoke" "Throw Yo Hood Up" lessons that most of the music out teaches now, there should be at least a small spot for social issues. Get real or be quiet.
Simply put, Bobby Valentino should've stuck with DTP or Def Jam or both of them - any record label actually. He sounds nice on the track but I'm not really interested in listening to him talk about human suffering. I mean, this is the same guy who said, "Ooo ma, tell me how did you get that in those jeans/the way you're poppin it is killin me/ look over here, come follow me," now he wants to stop bloodshed and end world hunger?
I guess someone deleted my comment.. but I gave it a 5.. .This is positive and a very nice song. It's simple but strong. How can you say f the social conscious? Marvin would be turning in his grave. It is impossible to compare Bobby V to someone as classic as Marvin Gaye but in the climate of music now with the corny synth beats like someone else mentioned this is REFRESHING. I already checked out the album too and I highly recommend it because the whole album is really different. I didn't know bobby had it in him.
Yea Blaze Global warming is a problem! Earthquakes in Chi town? I live in L.A. It was hot on tues, cold on wed, hot on thus! Shit ain't good ! Someone should say something? Waht role does Hip hop play in all of this? One thing eveyone and everything has in common: We all gotta live on this Planet together! The song is cool.On that note Bobby, Play like Chingy and go back home!
