Maybe it’s because I still have PTSD from the travesty that was Tipsy Texting, but any song with phone sound effects instantly makes me cringe. Thankfully Bobby V’s new Phone #, the first single off his upcoming album, might began to cure my fear of phones. (“Wait,” knowledgeably DJBooth readers are saying. “I thought Stilletos & T-Shirt was the first single?” Well, after Stilettos failed to take off, Bobby V’s calling a mulligan, un-singling Stilettos and rolling with Phone # as the “official” first single. Nice attention to details guys.) On the plus side producer Jazze Pha keeps the sound effects to a minimum, providing yet another light but catchy beat, while the always controversial Plies jumps in for guest verse assistance and Bobby V anchors the whole thing with his always smooth vocals. So, will Phone # have DJBooth nation dialing 911, or the request line? We’ll find out soon. Bobby V’s upcoming album Fly on the Wall still has no release date, but of course we’ll keep you posted on all the latest.

Last time I spoke with Bobby I joked that he was the unofficial champion of automobile sound effects (seriously, check out his catalog). Obviously, since tire screeches, horn honks and police sirens are not "in" in 2010, he had to move on to... technology sound effects? Anywho, we get Bobby's new single. Though I am not a fan of the Plies guest feature or the cliche subject matter, Valentino almost always delivers a solid performance.

Damn this is a bit of a downgrade for Valentino the production on this is at most average plies did not do anything to improve the song but still worth a rotation.

I like this...a lot! Bobby disappoints sometimes, but this isn't one of those times.

To be completely honest, this song was only half-decent for me. The concept is really overrated and the techno sounds are pretty annoying the second time around. I like Bobby and alot of his recent singles. "Slow Down" was a real R&B classic to me, but this is just eh.
I must admit though, Bobby did sound good on the hook and the production by Jazze was fantastic. Plies just sucks. Throw some Ludacris on this and I guarantee the end result will be near-classic. Overall, not a bad song, but not really something I would listen to again. |

Bobby V is my man and always knows how to breat a good hook but with plies on it, an automatic 3 stars. Would've been 4 but Plies just needs to change what he's doin not feeling goon status anymore.

where's Jazze Pha been? This beat is too busy. Bobby V does a good job, better than his most recent stuff, but production is just way too busy.

I wouldn't quite 911 this one, but I don't have my radio station on speed dial either. I've heard better from Bobby V.

Bobby V's part was worth 4 stars but i actually feel plies brought this song down a star, ludacris would have made this a certified hit. oh well. Bobby better push for a remix...

The drums were irritatingly simple. You can do better than that Jazzy Pha. Aside from that, this amounted to a grown man's "Kiss Me Through The Phone", which isn't saying much. Bobby Valentino can do much better. You know- the "Slow Down" days. Once again, I enjoyed Plies for some unexplainable reason.

Advice to Bobby: you want to keep making good songs? Stay away from plies and get some better lyrics. Nobody should ever compare you to that fool Soulja Boy.

Bobby V used to be the shiz back when he came out with Slow Down, Tell Me, Pimpin All Over The World...even his second album was a good listen....but he has seemed to have lost touch lately, the tracks ive been hearing from him are sub-standard...the beats just arnt there, the concepts arn't fresh, his voice is getting whiny-er everything I hear him....it just isnt that exciting...
This track isnt to bad, its pretty paint by numbers R&B by these days standard. The chorus is catchy enough, his vocals are deeper than usual, which is good. However, I find it disappointing that rappers like Plies are becoming the standard for all these guest features. Like really? Plies? Try Luda, T.I. even Drizzy would have ripped this track! Never been a big fan of a Jazze Pha production, but this is okay, the breakdown when the beat switches a little was a high point of the song. 5 years ago, this wouldve got a straight 2 stars, but from what I expect from R&B these days (which isnt too much) this gets a 3. Bobby needs to come harder than this, bring back that true R&B you gave us on your first joint! |

I've got to be honest, I think my favorite thing about this song is that it wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. Backhanded compliment of the year. The drums need to be turned down on the beat, and I'd frankly rather do without Plies, but I have to give it up to Bobby V. The man knows how to deliver a r&b jam. He deserves better than this.
@donjonjon - I was wondering the same thing myself. Jazze was everywhere a couple years ago, and I feel like I haven't heard much from him lately. |

Wow. He needs to sing about something else. The subject remained the same since "anonymous". I would be cool with that, but his vocals are only barely above average. That beat should have went to someone else.

Bobby V stinks, him and yung berg should put together all of their "potential" singles that didn't do crap. I bet you they could fill five 14 track CD's. However, this one was actually half decent. Even plies didnt bother me.

As someone has already said, paint by numbers RnB "potential" radio-single with no personality. It could've been done by anyone. It is catchy for the moment but will be forgotten tomorrow.
