Bobby Brackins - I'm Ready
Artist: Bobby Brackins
Producer: Nic Nac (The Starting Six)
Album: Live Good
Label: Tycoon Status/Universal Republic
Though not featured in the Booth when it dropped earlier this year, Bobby Brackins’ Ray J-assisted local hit 143 left no doubt that the Oakland rapper was prepared to make his mark on the national urban-music landscape. On the aptly-titled I’m Ready (his first feature), the West Coast buzzmaker drives the point home. Backed by Starting Six beatsmith Nic Nac‘s bouncy synth boardwork, the artist fills us in on just how excited he is to get down to business – both in the music biz and the sexual arena. In addition to straight-up announcing the record’s hit potential to those slow on the uptake (“This is a club-banger that’s radio-ready.”) Brackins wastes no time putting the moves on his girl, even suggesting they bring their bed to the club so they can break public decency laws in maximal comfort. R&B singer Marc Griffin sets the cherry on top of this pop confection, contributing his smooth vocals to the brassy chorus. Will Ready be the single that earns Bobby Brackins’ Live Good LP a solid release date from the Universal Republic brass? Only time will tell, but those digging it can, as always, keep it locked for the latest.

Bobby's vocals come across as a mix between nails against a chalk board and a pre-teen young male who hasn't yet hit puberty (this is constructive criticism, I promise), but this song is super duper catchy. That might have more to do with the Nic Nac production and the guest singer (Griffin) who steals the show with the hook, but in the end a hit is a hit - this COULD be a real hit.

Nice production and hook but as soon as the verse starts my interest level went down very fast.

I don't even know about this kid.. He reminds me of a mix between a wannabe Dream/Huey mix. Not sure.. 143 was extremely catchy with Ray J's hook, otherwise, Not positive this kid is gonna make it far..

Aside from a catchy rythmic melody on the hook this track is very boring. Bobby's vocals aren't fun to listen to, this production is less than special, and the vocals on the hook are sub-par.

Idk about this guy. His vocals weren't horrible, yet I don't think I could see myself listening to this for anything more than the boardwork of Nic Nac. I actually got excited cause the hook wasn't bad and I thought that was him singing, but those verses were just not good... at all. Not sure how far this kid will go in his career, but this isn't the track that puts his name in lights.

This is obviously aimed at a younger audience so it's no surprise that my old ass (relatively speaking) isn't feeling it. Definite pass for me, but I wouldn't be shocked to hear it get rotation on 106 & Park.

While I respect Bob and Nic's recent moves to create a mass appeal for themselves, I'm not particularly keen to their "sell-out" sound. As a Bay local I've listened to these guys grow up musically and I can firmly state that this is not my favorite cut from them. Nic is the truth when it comes to production (check his work with these artists: GO DAV, Starting Six, Young Murph, Doe n Reezy...). I knew they'd head this direction, but part of me was hoping they'd keep their roots in tact to let the rest of the country know what the younger generation of the Bay is rockin' to. I'm not hating, just a little disappointed here.

My girl has this blaring when she jumps out the shower. Let me be the first to say that the more I hear it the more I can tolerate the song. But I'm damn near 30 years old so this song probably ain't meant to be in my iPod. But to be honest I respect the production of the song and the song writing (verses, hook and bridge). Yea it's a hit female reaction is what counts I figure.

It is definitely the catchy beat and the amazing hook that make me actually like this song. Without those, Bobby would have a pretty bad record. Guess this proves Eminem's point that music is all about "a hot beat and a catchy hook" after all.
