“Only God can judge us, for no man is fit to.” I may have just made that expression up, but if I put quotes around it and “-Abraham” after it, you would take it as part of an important Biblical passage. Likewise for duo BLACWATER, their single GOOD MAN may not have actual quotes from the Bible, but it does carry the same weight of its lessons. South African producer Draztik Beats, one half of the pair, uses a popular sample in Hip-Hop as the backdrop for Cali emcee Silence Demall and his Brooklyn guest, Whosane, to confess what they would ask forgiveness for. Whether it’s something from years ago, something going on today, or something about to happen, the two artists make clear that they are proud of their actions but also recognize the culpability that belongs to them. Before today, it had been over two years since we last heard from BLACWATER; fear not as GOOD MAN marks the first single off their upcoming EP, The Weight Of Midnight, due out this July. Your parents may not accept it, but GOOD MAN may replace your attendance at church this Sunday. Now go in peace.
