The Black Sunn has a problem: whenever the Baltimore up-and-comer encounters a certain fine female, he becomes so transfixed that nothing else seems to matter. That’s right; he’s got a Pretty Girl Complex! Making its world premiere right here at DJBooth.net, the latest leak off Sunn’s forthcoming GodSound LP sees him serving up more of the chilled out, agile underground rhymes he delivered on his Booth debut, this time addressing a girl who’s got him under her spell. Beatsmith Mydus, whom you may remember from Mally‘s Reflection and 810‘s U Won’t Like This, mans the boards here, pairing a propulsive bass line with some jazzy old-school samples. If Black Sunn’s poetically vivid game-spitting isn’t enough to win over the lady in question, his soulful vocals on the sung hook and bridge should do the trick. In any case, this cut will undoubtedly succeed in wooing the Booth’s resident retro heads – if you fall into that category, be sure and pick up a copy of the artist’s latest full-length when it hits record stores and online retailers next Tuesday, the 27th.

Black Sunn sent over two very good records the other day. So, what did we do? I picked my favorite of the two. I've been talking about "Pretty Girl Complex" for years, so I was automatically a fan of the concept.

In the end, though, everything here comes together great. The production is highly enjoyable and BS's flow is solid.

Man, Baltimore's coming up as a hip-hop spot, and Black Sunn's at the forefront. This is some quality hip-hop, plain and simple.

Good verses and flow by Black Sunn backed up by a producer who know how to take his words over the top, but gotta agree with peeps he eventually fails to take the spotlight and hook/beat is the real star of this show. Such a smooth listen!

The Black Sunn continuously provides quality music amidst the tons of "copycat" artists from Baltimore. Originality and consistency are staples within his brand, and that's why he will be successful, if he chooses to be.
"Pretty Girl Complex", while not as thought provoking as some of his other songs (Lady With the Green Eyez, Every Need), the track, his delivery and the production is solid and still makes for a simple, yet extremely effective song. Easily a banger.
