Black Eyed Peas - Imma Be
Artist: Black Eyed Peas
Producer: will.i.am
Album: The E.N.D.
Label: A&M/ Will.I.Am Music Group
In my review of the Black Eyed Peas’ Boom Boom Pow, I predicted that their forthcoming album, The E.N.D., would be pushed ahead from its June 9 release date, and that the single would become one of the Top 10 songs of ‘09. While the first part doesn’t look like it’s going to happen, the second prediction’s been exceeded—so far, BBP is the #1 song of ‘09, having occupied the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for the last five weeks. On newly-released buzz record Imma Be the Peas let listeners know that, as far as they’re concerned, this is just the beginning. Fergie, will.i.am, Taboo, and apl.de.ap‘s flows are all as futuristically funky as ever, but Will’s creative beat, which starts out slow-paced but quickens in the middle of his verse, is the record’s high point. This cut’s danceability is off the chart, so just shake all potential hate to the side and let the sound take over your mind!

Hmmmm, i dunno the beat is pretty good, kinda interesting. But will.iams hook is annoying. Its got a nice style with it though. I need a few more listens, for now....3 stars

Just heard this today. I thought it was awesome!
The production sounds like Drake and Wayne’s “Ransom” and the hook reminds me of “A Milli”. I’m not a Black Eyed Peas hater, so I can enjoy this. This production is going to be addictive and the song is going to be all over the radio in no time. I also guarantee this will be the new “A Milli” beat for a bunch of rappers to hop on. I ain’t gon lie, I think WILL.I.AM is still killing cats out here in the game. LOL His verses basically said this IMO: I’mma keep rocking this weird, tight fitted ish, and acting like an alien and watch the money pile up while you cliche negros is still hating. Touche Will. Touche. |

As good if not better than Boom Boom Pow. Both songs are major growers. At first I hated Boom but now I think it is one of the best radio hits of the decade. This one I like a little better from the beginning.

Their old singles shit on this one. I think its pretty dumbed down, wack from the production and hella trashy. To me atleast. 1 1/2

I agree with DJ Baer. Boom Boom Pow grew on me big time and this probably will too. The hook sounds kind of annoying for now but once I sing this in my head for a good week or two, I imagine that I will grow to like it. I like the vibe that BEP has on this new album. Rotation.

0_o ... .. -.-' I thought the beat change was gon save this, but at the end, I couldn't even remember what I just heard... not harmonizing at all!
It's just a big mess, where I can't even find a pearl to say, "at least it was worth listening". (Surely not to be played more than the 3 times I did, to make sure I was not crazy for finding this awful) |

1st off "georgia nights" will go down in history as one of the most prophetic songs in music history. R.I.P. Dolla gone too soon. 2nd Ill Will, that MJ emblem is dope as hell. Now for the B.E.P. joint... Will I Am can do no wron@, his beats just @et better and better. This album is @onna Rock.

The production is good, until the dramatic switch towards the end. Although, I am not a huge BEP fan, I enjoyed this song. In rotation it goes.

The only thing keeping it from the 5/5 is the slow beginning. I love the production but they need to hit some hard flow if the beat is going to be that weak in the beginning. From then on it's entertaining as hell. Apl.de.ap brings it the best i've heard him.
This will be fun to listen to in the clubs. |

I too could not get into BOOM BOOM POW when we first featured it at DJBooth. A few star-studded remixes later, and plenty of burn at radio, and I am a fan. I must say though, I am on the fence about IMMA BE. Luckily, there is no need to be overly-critical... because it isn't a single selection (merely an album track). Look for the new single to hit our front page next week.

I think the moral of the story here is to be careful what I wish for.
What that means exactly is that I was hoping for a little more swag and hip hop feel from The BEP's new material instead of the oh-so-appealing pop route they have been taking. This one delivered my wishes, however I too am on the fence with Z. I think it's worthy of rotation but not by much, and I'm still expecting better. And PS- I'm thinking the actual new single will be one they performed on Jimmy Kimmel entitled 'Party.' That record follows the same party element as their past singles and WILL be a hit. |

at first: I'm not a a hater of them, fo real! but i just can't believe how BEP are making trash 'music' lately (naaw can't call this music) :-(
when i heard this pow pow shit i was about to puke, and now i've been suffering a couple of minutes while listening to this track... sorry, but in my opinion tis is not even a 1 star track !!! |

This song was definitely everywhere, however it went from alright in the beginning to an excellent track at the end...just take out that first minute and a half and youd have a banger of a club song.

I think this track is bangin, I can nad my head to this. The production is hott, I don't always love the production will.i.am comes up wit, but I always respect it. I can see how the chopped "imma be" could really annoy some, but I was feelin it. The thing that brought this down from banger status was the production change and the below par flows. This is def worthy of a few spins, tho.

Str8 off the bat Im feelin this 1 more than when i first heard Boom Boom Pow so im throwin it in rotation... 4 now... i agree with most of the booth in saying the beat is hot, and, i aint hatin the 'imma be' either, so overall dis will go on the portable but prolly wont get no plays on sataday-nite... yet

OK. In rotation, but more cuz of namesake than anything else. Only liked the remixes of Boom Boom Pow, and this is a kinda cool song. Beats good, just, as mentioned, as no harmony. Lyrics are decent. At least the more I listen to it the more it is worth the 3* I'm giving it.

for some reason the first couple seconds had me thinking " a milli".
Lol @ Young Son's comment. But I do agree with bowwserr. As far as this joint, I didn't feel it. Far too crowded and empty at different parts of the song. And they need to sing about something new (what happened to songs like where is the love???.) |

@Big-A: lol, I love your sarcastic attitude... people might not notice, but I know you always provide unbiased feedback, regardless of how (bad?) it makes you look, and I appreciate it.
@Legitimate Hip Hop INc.: The feeling is mutual! Your description matches my "messy room metaphor" I thought of when I heard this: it looks awful, but it's not necessarily full of garbage, it just needs a re-arrangement. ;) You can tell your momma your bedroom is a "classic" all you want, but she'll make you clean it up no matter what! @M.H.: what do you mean by that?! 0_o LOL @WOW: you know I got your back! ;) But don't be mad just because people ask more from you... @bowwserr: I know she definitely should have said something, but as much as I know WOW, she always has a reason, even if she doesn't mention it for some other reason... it's just a colloquial way to put it, the deepest feeling the music got her: HELL "naw"! :p For anyone who's not used to her, it can be very annoying though ;) |

@bowwserr: I've just seen your last post, and I don't know what you're talkin about (knowin more about you) like M.H. meant anything but a sexist joke at WOW (like it's expected that she'd not be reasonable)... if it's not that, then I missed it.
