Despite the downright epic gap between Bilal‘s last album release and the present day (nine damn years!), leaked cut Free left most readers and staff members convinced that the neo-soul vet’s forthcoming full-length would be well worth the wait. Now, the singer’s shifted his comeback into high gear with the official lead single, which finds him mired in a failing relationship, wondering if it’s too late to hit the “Restart” button and try again. In addition to lacing the beat with his impassioned vocals, the artist lends a hand behind the boards, teaming up with co-producer Steve McKie to craft an intricate instrumental that builds to a truly dizzying climax (if you’ve got headphones handy, now would be the time to put them on). So readers, does this creative cut bode well for BIlal’s long-awaited sophomore full-length? If you’re digging it, you’re sure to find more to your liking on the enigmatically-titled Airtight’s Revenge, set to hit the ‘net September 14, via Plug Research. In the meantime, fans with 89 cents to spare can purchase their very own copy of Restart from iTunes by clicking here!

Bilal was like an ex-girlfriend there for a while; I was waiting for her to call, but she never did - and so I moved on. Now that Bilal (my ex-girlfriend in the analogy) is back, I am not sure if I still like him (her) like I once did. This is solid, but not his best work. I am more enthused about the production work than the vocal arrangement. Might just be me...

No offense but maybe Bilal should go back into retirement.

There's no way he's gonna reach todays audiences.

Production quality is amazing, and the suggestion by Richard in the blurb about the headphones was a good recommendation. But Bilal seems very lazy, vocally on this track. Its a shame when an artist/ producers puts all their effort into the production and not on the vocal responsibilities as well to create something truly great. Shame.

this song sounds old. Like he is one or two decades behind.

While I appreciate the creativity, I felt like the track was building up the entire time and left me unsatisfied (analogy jokes aside). For you youngin's who are unintentionally making me feel old, the "old" Bilal was swinging in the falsetto clouds back in his prime. Dude was raw and comparable to D'Angelo. I'm hoping the rest of the album is a step up from this showcase.
