Big Boi - Ringtone
Artist: Big Boi
Producer: Organized Noize
Album: Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty
Label: Def Jam
Many of the music industry’s heavyweights are perfectionists who work long and hard to make an album the best it can possibly be (which would explain why Detox has taken so long). Such is the case with Big Boi, who has been waiting for the right moment to release his debut solo album, Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty; currently aiming for this summer of this year, Daddy Fat Sacks has unleashed the newest official single from the album. Reuniting with longtime in-house producers Organized Noize, General Patton dedicates the song to a lady in the spot; though he barely knows her yet, he is immediately attracted by her “theme song” (which actually is just her cell phone’s Ringtone). Reminiscent of #1 national hit The Way You Move, Ringtone is a prime candidate to get Sir Lucious Left Foot a solid release date on the LaFace/Zomba calendar.

This is definitely creative by Big Boi. Its out of his usual type of songs but it has mainstream appeal. The production is pretty dope and Big Boi always brings his talented flow! The chorus is pretty catchy and the type that can get stuck in your head. Pretty hot club song right here!

can't decide if it's worthy to be upgraded from "in rotation" to "banger." as of the first few listens, i'm going with the medium of 3.5, rounded down

Before even hearing this track, I heard people saying it wasn't great like Big Boi's usual joints are. They said it was too mainstream, and with a title like "Ringtone", you can expect that. But when I listened to this, this joint was pretty decent and creative. I like the Talkbox a lot. Since 2007 and 2008 was the return of the "autotune", I think 2009 might be the return of the "talkbox" (Autotune and the talk box are TWO different entities for you lightweights out there...lol). I just saw Stevie using it (again...he did in the 80s too) with the Jonas Brothers on the Grammys tonight.
This joint has an eclectic appeal. I can definitely throw it in rotation. I'm eager to see what else Big Boi crafts together for his new solo joint. |

Loved the feel on this one, a different sound from Big Boi but it still fits his style. Love the lyrics too, just glad to see Outkast come with something just right.

I really like this beat, but the problem with this song is the chorus, which is very annoying, and gives off a RnB flow to this song. When Big Boi is spitting this song is excellent, but when the chorus comes in it ruins the flow.

I have talked to about 20 people about this record since I got it sent over to me (I see you, Legend) last week on Wednesday. Honestly, I am torn. Its rotation worthy, from a radio-play sense, but it short of the expectations I will always have for work from Big Boi (or Outkast for that matter).
Spinning it... but not thrilled. |

Man the Grammys sucked this year. Keep it 100. Ya'll know that was bad. Jonas Bros committed the biggest disservice to Stevie Wonder possible by destroying his song in his presence and we all knew Wayne wouldn't get that album of the year. We got the presidency, we can't have it all I guess.// I gotta say I like this song alot. It brought back the original Voice box back. It has that 808 sound that outkast has made their very own. The hook is catchy and that Spanish guitar at the end is nice. The concept of the song is corny and I do expect more from daddy fat sacks in that respect. However I can't deny the appeal of the song.

Big Boi should change his name into Big Fail. This is wack despite his good rhymes. The vocoder, the hook and the beat also isn't the real deal. Organized Noise can do much better.

This was OK... the production is very strange, and I don't quite know what i think about it. I really didn't think the hook or any of the singing was very well done. Big Boi kills it as usual, though, and just made the song listenable for me.

I don't think this is enough if it's the lead single. It can create some hype for the album though. It is hot, It is creative and it will get played but I expected a little more

Andre and Big Boi have their followers. And people who knows their hits and people who think they are crazy guys from the ATL. The followers will hate this. the hit listeners won't know who this is. I love outkast, they make me feel good. I like big boi a lot, and musically him and andre do it like no one else. as long as they love what they're doing more power to them.
