Big Boi - General Patton
Artist: Big Boi
Producer: J Beatz [for Boom Boom Room Productions]
Album: Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty
Label: Def Jam
Growing up on the east coast, I’ve always enjoyed the dopely eclectic work Atlanta has been putting out for over a decade now (it’s hard to imagine another place where artists like Ludacris, Cee-Lo, and Outkast could come from). ATLien Big Boi resides on the edgier side of southern hip-hop, and General Patton is a prime example of why this veteran of the game commands such respect. J Beatz (from Boom Boom Room Productions) puts down a half military ceremony/half Empire Strikes Back, lightsaber duel production that Big Boi, and feature guest Big Rube, use to spit supremely fresh rhymes about about Jesus, their talent - “We killing everything that we attack, special forces of the rap game so you best take heed of that” - and even David Blaine (who knew?). While you won’t be hearing this heavy hitter on the radio (it’s not a single, just an album cut), it has me almost insanely anxious to hear Big Boi’s upcoming album Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, due to invade our speakers like General Patton on July 6.

Big Boi is going through everything he can think of for production on this album. Every song so far has been unique and different and that's what I love from him. Nothing you hear can be compared to another song. July 6th I'm ready.

While this is a good track by typical standards, I am a little relieved that this was cut from the album. This being cut just makes me more excited for Sir Lucious left foot.

This beat is so hard. Big Boi sounds great and like he was reenergized. If this was cut from the album, that's a big let down.

There's not much you can say about Big Boi and this album. He's been stewing with it for about three years, tinkering with every possible sound and producer in order to create something different.
While this may sound unfinished (and as squeaky clean as a pair of all white Forces), it's a testament that nothing from this project sounds rushed. If only others followed that same tactic when it came to major album releases. Oh, and anytime you get Big Rube to drop some knowledge at the end of anything Dungeon Family related = win. |

Really feelin' this rough-edged side to Big Boi. Not to say I don't love songs like "Shutterbug," which I thought was a dope single selection, but GP shows us all that the man can flat out spit.

Intro is amazing, this is my most 'awaited' album of the year so far, Shine Blockers, Fo Yo Sorrows and Shutterbug all individually different and banging and same here with 'General Patton'. Loving it.

Yeah (Lil Jon voice)! I can't resist songs that have choirs in the background. Sounds f***ing epic. Also loving that military feeling. This goes hard!

This joint knocks and then knocks some more. Plus, throwing some epic vocals into the mix is doing wonders for the sound, and Big Boi comes off harder than a sh!t after you ate a block of cheese.
If you like a serious bump and thump coming out of your trunk, then this is the track to wake your 'friendly' neighbors up with at 3 in the morning because you WILL have hard time playing it at lower volume levels. |

First Shutterbug, now this? I'm so excited for Left Foot I just wet my pants. Seriously. We might have a classic on our hands.
I'd say we're about to hear a bunch of freestyles over this beat, but the truth is most emcees couldn't handle it. Slow down Big, you're killin em. |

An average track for one of hip-hop's greatest(whom i hold to an almost unrealistic standard). This is good when you are in the mood for it, but it is the least exciting of Big Boi's recent leaks.

Gotta love this beat right here, has a nice "national anthem" feel to it. You can't deny Big Boi spit some shit on this too. Only thing I wish is that he spit a 3rd verse.

Yooooooooooooo! We should take all these Southern Neo-pseudo-Hip Hop "artists" and have them sit in a classroom to take lessons from true Southern Masters like your Boi. Excuse me, I gotta wipe this tear from my eye. 10 stars!

Nice! Cool to see a different side of Big Boi. This sample is cool, I like the effect that they put on it periodically. Would be f#$%ing awesome to see a live performance with a real ATL school band, and Choir.

I dunno why, but this track just didnt click with me. The production isnt that dope & I dont think Big Boi sounded as tight as he usually does with the mic.
Defiantly the weakest track leaked from the album so far (though the other tracks leaked have been sick). |

Oh yeah!! Definitely a tight song from Big Boi! I felt like maybe he should put Killer Mike (if they're still boys) on this track and he'll kill it too.
