Despite Big Boi‘s two recent singles, Royal Flush and Sumthin’s Gotta Give, garnering largely positive reviews inside our DJBooth, neither one has attained widespread commercial success. With his debut album, Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son Of Chico Dusty, approaching its current release date of October 28, the Outkast member has released another album track specifically made for longtime Dungeon Family fans. On Dubbz, the ATLien and fellow Dungeon Family alumnus Backbone (aka Mr. Fat Face 100) breathe new life into the seemingly played-out topic of multi-accessoried cars. Complete with creative delivery and verses discussing such varied topics as Fruitopia drinks, the unemployment line, and monkey bars, Dubbz is living proof that a little thought and some Southern charm can make a stale topic new again.
The beat is a little too much for me. I really hope the album has some better songs.. I actually like "Somethins Gotta Give" .. hopefully this one will grow on me. I also have a hard time listening to only Big Boi without Andre, but we will see. I hope for the best!
Man...I really wanted to try and like this one. The beat is eclectic I suppose...but I really don't feel it. It seems like something one of these new "dime a dozen" rappers would spit over. I really liked his first two singles...I wonder why he's going in this direction with the project this time. The hook is a bit catch, but as far as the rest, I don't know. This is only OK. I hope him and his label realize this is not that hot of a joint and reconsider it being a single. I do know that Andre's solo project is going to be crazy ill. Even though Big Boi is not bad, Dre is going to blow him out the water....lol
This is more in the direction of the REAL Big Boi, but I wouldnt call this a hit record. Sure, the production is good and so are the vocals, but it just doesnt have the extra, indescribable factor of the song that tells you its going to be big. He's getting closer, but this is still a step backwards. Hopefully the album will prove me wrong.
I'ma big a Outkast fan as there is, but this song sucks. Period. No way around it. Just like my man MH, I tried to like it, but I can't. That beat is terrible. Can't get with it. Respect to Big Boi, I know you can do better, please do a last min cut and get this off the album.
The first 8 seconds augured well...but the song disappointed me! It's not horrible but I don't like it. The beat is too "computerized", I don't know how to express it! And what is more, that grunting voice is scary lol!
If you are an Outkast fan from the mid-90's, this is something you would have heard from back then. New school Outkast fans probably are not familiar with the Dungeon Fam sound. Old topic, decent song.
this some hard drivin' ryder music..got me head noddin' like a mutha'..quite refreshin',compared to alot of these recycled beats that all other rappers copy and use from one another
Yeah this cut had to grow on me, but it only took until the hook for it to hit. This @*#$! go hard, don't know about a club banga, but definitely some ish to ride to.
I know that this is supposed to be based on rotation, and this will probably never see rotation...but this is old outkast comin' out...i mean people @*#$! about the state of hip hop, but this is the weird soundin' style that put outkast, and the south, on the map! I just went and copped all the old outkast albums just from listenin to this...
I'm a HUGE Outkast fan. Daddy-Fat-Sacks came with it, definitely an older 90's Southernplayisticadillacmuzik type track [For you folks out there old enough to remember that stuff] hah not that i can, im only 19, i just appreciate good music.
Yeah I heard this for the 1st time on DJ Strong's show a few nights ago. Was looking all over the web to find out who was on this joint with Big Boi but didn't know the name of the track. the beat and chorus definetly knocks in the system but I will try it out on this Halloween gig I got coming up...should be cool since it is right around his album drop date. I agree it may not be a certified club banger but if you ain't scared to play then do so. He took an old topic and ran with it. The game needs more hip-hop like this. I hope it inspires others.
