Recently, it was discovered that Beastie Boys member Adam “MCA” Yauch had a cancerous tumor in his left parotid (salivary) gland.  While the tumor is not expected to damage MCA’s vocal chords and was detected very early, it will be several weeks before doctors clear him for performance; consequently, the group had no choice but to cancel their upcoming tour dates and push the release of their Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 1 LP from September 15th to an as-yet-unspecified date.  To lift the spirits of the countless fans currently praying for MCA’s speedy recovery, the Beasties have released a brand new single. Surveying the current state of the genre, MCA, Mike D, and Ad-Rock (along with special guest Nas) voice a complaint that every hip-hop head has thought, but most have never mustered up the courage to say: there are Too Many Rappers and not enough true MCs!  This track is sure to leave listeners even more eager to see Yauch return to the mic—with the game sorely lacking true artists, we can hardly afford to lose a single one!

Firstly, my thoughts and prayers go out to MCA's family and group members. May he enjoy a speedy recovery process... there is NOTHING like the Beasties in concert.

As for "Too Many Rappers," Wale was just talking about this today on Twitter. He mentioned that there are more artists than fans, which promoted a chuckle from me - since I've been saying this for years.

The guys still sound as fresh as they did 20 years ago and Nas is solid as always.

What a collabo. This is real hip-hop at its finest. Knocking production, sick flows and a good, true message. This is what we need to bring back to the industry.

Yo MCA, beat that @*#$! man, and bring us back some heat. This is a promising track, and although I've never been a fan of the beastie's flow, they have tracks that I love. This is heat, and NAS is like...

Cosign BDF! That hysterical flow they got sometimes annoys me. But this is different, so I also cosign GStan!

As for the message, finally someone with a voice is sayin it: THERE'S TOO MANY @*#$! RAPPERS!!! :s

I hate how many pathetic people are there embarrassing the genre! You gotta check this video with a bunch of "rappers" introducing themselves! Disgraceful: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jMVM8bBwsE

Feelin it. Nice simple production on this track with excellent drums really sets the tone for dis track ...
The song does a great job of messing around with the standard structure of a hip hop track, having the MCs hop in and out back and forth whenever they feel like it. That keeps it all the more interesting.

Good choice of feature & a good theme to rap about, though I felt this track was a tad disappointing. Nas was decent & the production was good, though I have never been a massive fan of the Beastie Boys (Intergalactic is the only Beastie Boys track that ive got in my rotation). Still a solid effort though

ehhh kinda boring, the only reason that this is given 4 stars is because of the names "beastie boys and Nas" so ppl ride their nuts cuz its "real hip hop"...yeah but i aint feelin this at all, they need to be more clear, i wanna know what theyre sayin...idk even 1 word the guy at bout 2:35 said so this is just OK for me, maybe if the instrumentals werent so loud...

Heavy names on this track but in my opinion a little too much going on. It does sound like Beastie Boys old school style, but I gotta say "I dont know.." for this one.

i agree with kitchen, its a good concept "too many rappers not enough emcees" but its too much noise. Beastie Boys and Nas have different styles.

the only reason the average rating on this song is low is cuz nobody actually pays attention to the lyrics and its dumb cuz you base the song on by how it sounds, i have many songs i hate the beat for but just what they say is the reason why i listen to them

I like it, but not nearly as much as "Make Some Noise", I don't really like putting Nas with them either... 2.8
