Barrington Levy - Watch Dem (Murderer)
Artist: Barrington Levy
Featuring: Snoop Dogg , MIMS
Producer: Daddy Biggs
Album: Promo Single
Label: Platinum Camp Productions
Since Barrington Levy first commented on his home country’s problems with violent crime on classic track Muderer, things have only gotten worse; currently, Jamaica’s homicide rate is fifth highest in the world. On his latest single, Watch Dem (Murderer) Levy updates the relevant as-ever cut for the year 2010. Joining the headliner over Platinum Camp Productions’ head honcho Daddy Biggs’ string-driven, hip-hop-infused Caribbean groove, West Coast icon Snoop Dogg and This Is Why I’m Hot rapper MIMS contribute guest bars that, while not entirely in line with the original track’s socially conscious message, come packed with enough engaging flows and cash-centric tough talk to keep listeners entertained. Digging this genre-blending reinterpretation? Levy’s forthcoming full-length, It’s About Time, has yet to receive a solid release date, but reggae-lovers can rest assured we’ll bring you the latest news and tunes.

How can you hate on a song with banging production and vocals from great Barrington Levy? You can't. However, I can be critical of the guest verse choices here and both Snoop and MIMS fall well short of the bar. The underlying story behind this record is powerful, but the execution could have been better. Enjoyable listen, ready for more.

nodding my head to the beat straight away, ill give that a 4. barrington gets a 4. mims gets a 2.5 for straying from the subject and snoop gets a 3. overall 3.5 but ill round down, still a nice song

MIMS has been on a few songs I havn't expected him to be on. A song with snoop is way weird to me. This beat is dope, but snoop doesn't do it for me and the reasons behind this song are strong though.

echo-ing scream of murderer from barrington is captivating
surprisingly ill take mims lines over snoop whos just appeared lazy on this track. fast pace flow from mims and the switch up flow is intresting now back to the chorus: its getting annoying and the whole we are the best, cooking coke, gangsta shout out from all three artist just loses further helps this track lose identy of its meaning. 3spins and only 3 for me but this probably wouldnt make it on my MP3. dissapointment from snoop and the fact that mims was best(in my opinion) on this tracks says it all. |

Nothing special, to be honest. I think this remake could do better if the beat were darker and dramatic, something more New Yorkish, Queens, Brooklyn. You know those songs made by Mobb Deep, Gangstarr and Wu-Tang Clan from the 1990's - THAT style would prove much better over this lukewarm party track. Sometimes, the song needs sight in order to enhance the audio.

This is cool, I dunno if it will go far as a single, but the beat is dope and everyone sounded good so this will make a nice album track. I'm interested in what else Levy has coming on his new album.

Got to agree with Z. This one falls short, and it's definitely not Levy's fault. Snoop sounds bored, and Mims doesn't exactly light it up either. Shrugs.

That beat is suzzling sausages with Levy tearing it up! Snoop was actually a good choice for the song EXCEPT he could've done alot better. ALOT. Mims was ok, I wrekin' someone more street/hustle wise woulda killed this. King Mez or Richboy or something, hmm juz daydreamin' random rappers :p rotation

Snoop Dogg isnt droping the same quality of verses that most of us have came used to hearing from him, this was a poor effort in my opinion. Mims was probably a little better though wasnt anything special either (people need to stop hating on him for being the 'This Is Wy Im Hot' rapper). I would of prefered hearing Barrington Levy by himself on this.
2.5 Just thought id add that I think any of the guys from L.O.X. would of been a better choice for a guest feature on this. |

I just love the tongue twisting vocals by Barrington Levy, and to me Snoop Dogg and MIMS both did pretty good, I mean neither one of them really went in but they rode the beat.

While I don’t think it’s good enough for me to keep it in my music vault, it’s a good track to listen to as a one-off. Both Snoop and Mims were alright, and I've got to mention that Barrington Levy's contribution here will undoubtedly sound familiar to even casual reggae fans. That said, this is still Barrington Levy we are talking about. 2.5

This probably wont sit well with to many of you but I felt MIMS went pretty hard. His change in flow saved this for me. Levy carried the song obviosly and Snoopy just casually rode the beat, which in my opinion he is doing WAY to often these days.

MIMS?! Just seeing him featured on this track had me wondering before I even listened...Barrington Levy sounds great on here and you wouldn't think by his picture he would sound like that. The production work by Daddy Biggs is great...I just wish Snoop and MIMS would have either been left off or stepped up there game

Rakim was on the original...'Nuff said about that.
As for the update: Barrington - Strong as ever. Snoop - Kinda undermined the message here (as Nathan said). Ditto for Mims. In rotation I say... |

The beat is nice, and believe me when I say im a huge Barrington fan. However, there are only so many ways you can flip his "Murderer" Kinda disapointed.

Something about this song gets stuck in my head. Definatly something I could ride to. But really, Snoop and Mims? That's not a random colab or anything. There verses fall short anyway. Rotation.

This beat was nuts! However, that's the only reason I find myself listening to the song aside from Barrington Levy's signature vocals. I love Snoop to death but I expected a bit more on his part.

MIMS and Snoop, yeah they put in the effort but it just doesn't seem to fit the song. Both are forgettable verses and do not really strike any sort of cord for me. Barrington Levy easily out-shined both on this track but I feel the guest vocals took away from the entire song and so it suffered. I have not heard the original track but I feel the need to go listen to that because I am sure its more centric and not as scattered as this one.

I am a huge snoop Dogg fan so to me I was instantly absorbed in this song. This song brings in his old school flavor with a new school beat. I also loved Barrington Levy I had never heard a song by him and he sounded awesome in this song. He reminds me a lot of Sean Paul. He almost adds a Jamaican feel to the song which makes it sound awesome.

Decent track, I kept waiting for his signature background chorus, i won't even try to recreate it in text but no sunglasses needed for this track, no body really shined but it's approved for rotation
