While most (hopefully) knew that February was Black History Month, many are unaware that March is Women’s History Month. Consider yourself informed. On new release Something L.A. based emcee Bambu, who we last heard on the Booth approved Paper Thin, takes on the chronically overlooked issue of domestic violence. Laying the foundation for this deadly serious record is DJ Phatrick, who steps out from behind the boards and flips a sample of Adele’s Someone Like You into a heartwrenching beat. It’s gorgeous work, but it’s Bambu’s lyrics that truly make the song so gripping as he tackles hip-hop’s implicit and explicit acceptance of violence against women, how that violence plays out in real homes and how such brutality is passed down through generations. There aren’t many track you truly need to listen to - this is one of them. In addition to a video for Something dropping at the end of the month, those feeling moved can find much more fearless hip-hop on Bambu’s upcoming EP Short Changed, a re-release of his Exact Change album, due out April 29.

We need more material like "Something" and we need more artists, who are brave enough to tackle serious topics like Bambu. Yes to both.

Whoah, they say prepare to be suprised, I was more than suprised, I was blown away, off the face of this world for a good three and a half minutes. Gonna have this on repeat until I nod off. Deff gonna cop 'Short Chnaged'. This is beautiful & insightful hip-hop. Amazing job on the beat too be Phatrick.

This song is amazing. I absolutely love how real it is and how emotional the whole thing is made by excellent production and amazing story-telling. Huge props to DJ Phatrick, this song's effect was greatly amplified by how well the production fit the message. I can't stop listening to this song.

i have to admit i havent been on dj booth in about 2 weeks so im sitting catching up and going through some of the track list and this is the only stand out track. deep "picture painted" lyrics with a complimentary vocal for the chorus if he drops a video that is just as vivid as his lyrics this song will make a impact.
