Balance - Inception
Artist: Balance
Featuring: Uncle Murda , Bishop Lamont
Producer: Dae One
Album: B-Dae EP
Label: Ayinde Music
As those who tuned in for Balance’s previous feature, the DJBooth-approved I’m Here Now, already know, the Oakland emcee exhibits all of the attributes of a west coast rapper, for better or worse. In his latest song, Inception – nope, I can’t figure out what it has to do with the movie either – we get both sides of the coin. Produced by Dae One, repeating chords and claps are hypnotizing, but some may find them repetitive, while a hook by sung hook by J. Myers is expertly delivered but sounds somewhat out of place. The Oaktown representative spits yet another solid verse, as does guest Uncle Murda, but neither have the same impact as guest Bishop Lamont, who not only delves deep inside the public rap consciousness but works in some nice punchlines while he’s at it: “I don’t need Wi-Fi to use this Mac on my lap.” Frankly I could see the response to this track going either way, so now it’s up to the Booth – get to rating and commenting my friends. Fans of Balance can find much more on his upcoming EP, B-Dae, due out in May.

Balance has been a mildly-inconsistent artist in my book. Some of his stuff really hits, other stuff misses. "Inception" is more hit than miss. Solid production and hook, but the headliner suffers when one of his two guest spots (Murda) weighs down the track.

Maybe its because I just listened to Sade and Jigga's new jam, but this song doesn’t do it for me. The production is solid, however, the verses weaken the strength of this track. This song could have been something special if it featured other Emcees. Still a good beat, nonetheless.

Production is pretty good. Song probably could've been more with better artists. I feel that way listening to D12 sometimes too...
