B.o.B - The Biz
Artist: B.o.B
Producer: Havoc
Album: May 25th Mixtape
Label: Rebel Rock/Grand Hustle/Atlantic
Fans of ATL modern day Renaissance man B.o.B. have been waiting for the release of his debut album about as long as hip-hop nation’s been waiting for Detox (I exaggerate, but you get the point), and to keep the people from rioting Bobby Ray is making sure to feed the masses with a steady stream of new tracks, including today’s mixtape leak The Biz. On The Biz not only does B.o.B. spit over Mobb Deep’s classic track Shook Ones Part II (shouts to Havoc for the darkly dope beat), but he does it with the blend of street-edged hardness and creativity we’ve come to expect from the man, breaking down the music industry he’s struggled so hard to find a place in with impressive lyrical skill. I mean, come on, who else could make an extended Black Rob Whoa! reference sound fresh? The Biz is off B.o.B.’s upcoming May 25th Mixtape, which is also the date his The Adventures of Bobby Ray album is finally due to drop (he swears).

B.o.B.s flow is always dope. His unique voice and flow just goes well together. This isn't my favorite by far from B.o.B. but there is no denying his talent. His album needs to come out. Like now..

What is SAD is lots of casual hip-hop fans know this beat from one of the battle scenes in the movie 8 Mile and nothing more. This is the quintessential Havoc production from the Mobb Deep hey day, people!
Sorry, I am down from on top my soapbox. Anywho... B.o.B is much better off when he raps over quasi-silly/offkilter beats, but he more than holds his own here. This only makes me want his debut more and more. May 25th is circled, TJ. |

I love hearing new rappers rap over classic beats and this is no expection. Though I prefer Mobb Deep instead, B.o.B. brings his own flavor and makes it his own song. I'm curious to what his album's gonna sound like, though I know for sure it'll be dope.

Its a solid effort from B.o.B., though it only made me wont to hear the original... Mobb Deep absolutely killed some dope production from Havoc on Shook Ones Part II, which in my opinion is a hip hop classic

To me, when artists take well known, and in this case classic samples like this its taking the easy way out. It totally takes away from b.o.b's talent here, sorry people.

Of course Mobb Deeps original version is WAY better because it's a hip-hop classic!! (I still have it on my iPhone and i've been bumpin it since i first heard it years ago)
I've heard alot of remixes with this beat but this is one of the better ones!! |

This is going to be my second day in a row I've compared a rapper to Andre 23, but listen to the first few bars of B.o.B.'s flow and tell me that's not Andre-esque. I don't think anyone's claiming this is better than Shook Ones, including B.o.B. himself, but for a mixtape track, I couldn't ask for much more.

Agree with @Aussie_Pride, this is a beat that will live forever it ain't going nowhere. Sh!t's a Classic!
Nothing ground breaking but B.o.B. strings together enough decent rhymes to keep you paying attention. Rotation fa sho! |

Hip-Hop aint dead, just on life support. And seems like B.o.B is only giving it medicine and paying for more time.

Always has been a hot beat. The freestyle is nice but I'm used to his usual joints that are a little off the wall. Its still a good finished product though.
