B.G. - Back to the Money
Artist: B.G.
Producer: Oddz.N.Endz
Album: Too Hood 2 Be Hollywood
Label: Chopper City/E1/Atlantic
B.G. fans rejoice! After a three-year dry spell, the N.O. emcee is finally ready to get Back to the Money with the release of his 11th solo album, Too Hood 2 Be Hollywood. On the project’s lead single, Baby Gangster makes his return to the game official. After apologizing to the streets for being absent for so long, the artist gets down to business; backed by Oddz.N.Endz’ densely-packed blend of sawtoothed keyboard chords, synth swooshes, and high-impact percussion (topped off with the hook vocals of Cash Money singer Magnolia Chop), the rapper speaks briefly on his former creative and financial difficulties (“I can’t lie, I had started to feel the recession/ I signed my deal but I really wasn’t feelin’ progression”) and lets fans know just how much paper he plans to stack in the future (a lot). B.G.‘s no-nonsense attitude is admirable, but will it add up to renewed riches? We won’t know for sure till November 24, when the emcee’s latest full-length hits online retailers and record stores everywhere.

I liked this. B.G. always picks tight beats that he sounds good on. That hook was pretty nice too. I've waited forever for this album, though. Hurry up!

Geezy KILLED THIS here. It's everything a single of that type should be; explains why he's been gone for so long, some industry shenanigans getting in the way, and his new determination (Anybody notice he's got the same deal that fellow Cash Money alum Juvenile got-(artist's label here)/E1/Atlantic-Maybe it was to alleviate these shenanigans). Oddz-N-Endz and Chop propped this up too, just like they did in earlier released track "Keep It 100". Should be a street anthem.
Side note: This 4th quarter (and next year's 1st) is going to be HUGE for New Orleans hip-hop fans; first we have Juvenile's "Cocky & Confident" dropping on November 17, then "Too Hood 2 Be Hollywood," Birdman's "Pricele$$," and maybe the "Young Money Fam" compilation album dropping on the 24th. After that, we got Weezy's "Rebirth" on December 15, then next first quarter is the "rain date" for most of these albums, plus that's also when Mystikal's getting out of prison. Finally, Mannie Fresh's got his new independent label/distribution deal, so we should be hearing more from them soon (and that's also when they're aiming for the Hot Boys Reunion to take place) |

I appreciate B.G.'s apology, but this song does not make up for anything. Banging production does not make up for the same ol same old from an artist who should know better than to come with a cliched "money" track.
I've never been a huge fan of Magnolia Chop, but this chorus is just not very good. I expect more. |

his voice is still ill. but this song sucks. same old money trash talk. he still might have some die hard fans, but with songs like this one he will certainly not gain new ones or move units to keep him relevant. thats fo SURE

Damn! 11th solo album and this is the quality/substance of a lead-single? It seems I haven't missed too much.
All the elements (hook/production/verses) sounds like I've heard them somewhere before (and may I add done better), just can't point it out. |

Even though the title of this track says "Back To The Money", it really isn't that type of track at all. I sat there and listened to what B.G. was saying and he pretty much spitting about his situtation and things he been going through. I don't know what other people may be hearing, but it's not a flossing, stunting, money track at all. It's a street anthem. Great production, good hook from Magnolia Chop and gutta lyrics from B.G., it's a really good song!
I respect B.G. because he gives us that reality rap and he does it so well, much better than other artist in his category, such as Young Jeezy, Plies, Rick Ross, Gucci Mane, etc. Those artist come off as being too generic, when it comes to spitting that raw street shit. B.G. lays it down well. He gives you music you can relate too. |

B.G. sounds alright...seems like his subject matter still hasnt changed. I like him better back in the day on HotBoyz...the hook/chorus is horrible.

I don't know why everyone hating on this..The lyrics are sincere..back on his on grind after a long hiatus..It's not really about him having money and flashing and stuff..I really respect BG, and all of his albums were quite good, even without the backing of good production. BG was always the most talented of the Hot boys..I would love to hear him on a album with solid production!

B. Gizzle definitely knows how to stay in his lane. However, it's time to show some progression lyrically instead of repeating the way he was living in different ways. Not a bad cut though, just not strong enough for a lead single.
