B. Stille (of Nappy Roots) - Awnaw, Not Again
Artist: B. Stille (of Nappy Roots)
Producer: Taylor Mayd
Album: Greg Street Presents: Nappy University
Label: Hoopla Worldwide
Though it’s been nearly a decade since the Nappy Roots introduced themselves to listeners everywhere with first single Awnaw, the Southern-rap anthem still sounds just as great as it did back in 2001. A track that classic is hard to follow up but, on newly-leaked mixtape cut Awnaw, Not Again, group member Buffalo Stille rises to the occasion, delivering a sequel that should leave few unimpressed. The bluesy, piano-led sample that forms the backbone of Taylor Mayd‘s beat sets a wistful, summery mood as the emcee mixes timeless wisdom with laid-back braggadocio, assuring fans “I keep it nappy, in my country ways / still fryin’ them chickens, still stackin’ my hay.” In short, the record’s as refreshing as a tall glass of lemonade on a sweltering day. Is it a worthy successor to the group’s debut single? I think I know the answer, but I’ll let Booth readers have the final say. Greg Streets Presents Nappy University, the official prelude to the 4/20 release of the group’s The Pursuit of Nappyness LP, is set to hit the ‘net “soon.” Also, watch for the Nappy Roots to step into the Booth for an exclusive interview with DJ Z sometime in April.

Taylor Mayd's production on this is incredible! B. Stille was cool and definitely kept it country but there were a couple times in the song where his timing felt off. Still a dope song, but it could have been a banger.

Look - the beat is straight Nappy-Made and B. Stille sounds great over it, but I would have preferred a posse-cut. I think the Nappy Roots are a classic case of "The whole is greater than the sum of the parts."

This production is too old school for my taste.

Another solid number by Nappy. B. Stille came correct and the production is solid, can't wait for Pursuit Of Nappyness.

I really, really wanted to like this track more, but for some reason it just didn't connect like I wanted to. Maybe it's my fault, maybe I'm too much of a city boy.

Like a bad bowler, I'm so gutter. This is enjoyable, but it's a little too "Country Folk" to catch my ear past standard rotation.

This guy is really spittin'!! I think he can stand on his own two as a solo artist in the game. Something new and creative which is what's lacking in rap right now-
