At first blush, the life of a big-shot rapper seems like it would be a walk in the park. But if you really take a minute to think about it… um… nope, still seems pretty great to me. While I’m not entirely certain what kind of anguish Northeastern vet AZ is asking listeners to empathize with on his latest street single, it hardly matters – Feel My Pain is less a gripe session than a braggadocio-packed banger. Beatsmith Frank Duke stark, sample-collage production sets a gritty, retro-informed mood as the artist delivers his tightly-wound bars: “Superb penmanship, heard that my pen was sick, never impotent, wonder where my n*ggas went / Die-hard, still on-point even when I’m bent, fly cars, Louis scarves, everything is mint.” Call it venting or call it boasting, it’s hard to argue with AZ’s mic skills. Heavyweight DJ/producer Statik Selektah tops the track off with some authentic cuts, blending samples of Busta, Kanye, Jeezy and other prominent rhymesayers on the hook. Like what you’re hearing? Keep it locked for release details on AZ’s Do or Die 2 LP, set to drop “soon.”

Before you even press play on an AZ record you know what you're getting. Unlike some of his past collaborators (cough cough, Nas), AZ has the ability to (almost) always select production work that caters to his sound. He never compromises his artistic vision to make a certain type of record and the end result is always authentic hip hop.

This isn't the best I've heard from AZ, but he keeps on making records so I'll keep on listening.

AZ has always been super underrated. I still give "Do or Die" a monthly spin. That being said, this sounds unfinished. The mix isn't that crisp, and Selektah's scratches usually mesh better with the structure of the song. Rotation for now.

I was liking his flow, but the lack of an exciting sounding beat kinda ruined it for me.

This is dope, i'm lovin all the samples. Just hearing them on a track with AZ makes all the lines sound more legit. AZ still has it, and he never disappoints.

First time in a while Ive heard AZ over an original quality beat. I always have felt like he's had the capability to make incredible tracks if he had the right production behind him. However, this beat is good but not great - I feel like its missing something. AZ comes correct tho.

Kind of feels like a freestyle to me, as if AZ came in a rhymed first take over someone's else's beat. That's a long way of saying that while AZ's rhymes are dope, and I'm digging the Statik cuts as always, I don't feel like the beat and the rhymes work together. They feel parallel to me.

Yes, R.I.P. Guru

AZ is one of the most underrated emcees of all time in my opinion.
Doe or Die was a classic album, and after hearing this track I’m definitely excited for Doe or Die 2.

Some say AZ is "Nas Lite". However, "Nas Lite" is a lot better than 75% of other rappers "regular". We'll always get lyrics coming straight from inside him, and he picks some SWEET beats-once again Statik gets his Primo on with the cuts!

His wordplay definitely is nice. The production is ok, sounds a bit weird.

Everything on this track sounded very simple, exluding AZ's flow. The man has skills and is very underrated as far as rappers with talent go. Samples worked into the hook were pretty cool, but AZ is the star of this track 100%.

Production was barely there. Seriously, WTF. This guy is usually known for having some of the sickest beats. All three verses very solid. 3.5

Other than cuts worked in a hook, production is a let down. As far as lyrics go AZ doesn't let down as he supplies quality verses.

The Beat is pretty sick just something to nod your head to, lyrics are on point as always with AZ and the scratching from Statik is scintillating
