Once upon a time, you could tune into a hip-hop station and hear music hand-selected by DJs with a personal connection to the scenes they were promoting. Today… well, let’s just say times have changed. On Radio 2.0, the latest release off DJBooth-sponsored, for-charity project World View, AWKWORD links up with a few equally zealous old-school devotees to bemoan the current state of the airwaves. Vice Souletric handles production duties, blending slow-rolling percussion, gritty string/brass loops and retro cuts as the NYC underground mainstay offers a critical perspective on the homogenous, corporate and profit-driven nature of mainstream rap. Sharing guest duties with Jewish emcee/activist Brimstone127 and Chi-town newcomer Dug Infinite, living legend KRS-One steals the show on sheer aggression, railing against a situation he describes as, “backwards like flyin’ a dog and walkin’ a bird.” It may be too late to stop the “vicious circle,” described on this cut, but look on the bright side; you can still count on The DJBooth to deliver a hand-picked, commercial-free supply of the latest and greatest tunes. Keep it locked for further details on World View, which as-yet lacks a solid drop date.

I consider DJBooth to be "Radio 2.0," so it made perfect sense that we'd premiere this new joint. Great old school, 90's era hip hop feel on the record, which is solidified by the legendary vocals of KRS. Whether you dig this type of sound or not, there is no denying the message its sending.

This beat by Vice is tight. I like everyone's content in their delivery. Chorus is cool too. I'll throw this into rotation.

I'm biased. Vice is the homie forreal but this joint go hard-hard. G.Huff & Vice got next with that "Are we there yet?" This ain't nothing new, my man been in it since '98.

KRS is a legend, and AWK is one of my favorite emcees of today. Love this concept. Love the beat. I know AWK has mad verses better than this one, but I still give this a 5 outta 5!

It was an honor working with Awkword on this record. Its good to see hiphop being used to help others. The World View project will hopefully help bring more positive attention to hiphop.

Great to see such talented artists like AWKWORD and KRS-ONE keeping hip hop alive and using their art to spread important messages and raise money for non-profit causes. Great message, great lyrics, great production, great socially aware tunes bringing back what hip hop was always about! Music for social change!
